Released live at TUM*04. Links on the PAiN website or links to scene.org might not work (yet). Have fun! People at TUM seem to like the mag :-)

just finished reading it (conveniently, i'm home sick :). another swell issue, i hope the momentum continues to the next issue. a breakpoint release would rock, and i dug the live party report. truck's and dominei's articles were great as well. and most of the others. :) a little more objective on the chart comments next time?

unlock: WHY release a mag without any decent articles?
sucks added on the 2004-12-28 19:02:31 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
then why don't you submit one instead of complaining and whining? (the only thing you seem to have a gift for, as usual...)

Dipswitch: I hate you for that powerpuff thing! I'll kick your filthy german ass, someday :)
rulez added on the 2004-12-28 19:24:15 by keops keops
some hints:
- big blocks of white text aren't pleasant to read.
- use small paragraphs.
- use different colours to emphasize words here and there. (although this might go against your "yikes, we're dark!" scheme :)
- use consistent formatting in the interviews by different editors.

haven't really checked out the content yet, so i'll spare the thumb for later.

Good quality scene mag, but I found this issue really boring I'm sorry to say.
Very nice. I liked this one :)
Dominei; you know i love you, but i found some flaws in your article. dont EVER NEVER mention that you are a coder. I use that when im tired of someone (female), and it works.....if it dont work in the beginning, just go to the details, and then you can read in her eyes: "He`s not worth it". ;)

"Demos Are" by Gargaj was a good article.

fantastic mag, superb, interesting as always, fresh, good job, people! keep on with that! :)
It is a shame i didn't get to reading pain issues sooner, because i thought of it as some marginal diskmag in the past.

Now I see I was completely wrong, there is a whole lot of articles on actual themes. The writing style of all authors is very readable and fresh. You can feel the life breathing inside this mag.

@ Megadelux Yes, issue 0304 was far better imho, but I only see you here slamming out your shit against nearly everything that comes out! Does that make you happy?
rulez added on the 2004-12-30 04:23:13 by ghandy ghandy
ghandy, no most of the people who has commented here has been a part in creating it or has close mates who was. personally i dont think the people who are behind this mag really cares if anyone says this is good/bad, they obviously must know that the mag sucks from a readers view as they probably even read it (mostly) thro themselves.
added on the 2004-12-30 09:56:18 by Hatikvah Hatikvah
megadelux: It's difficult to make a magazine that focuses on such a narrow range of topics as the demoscene still worth reading after so many years in which demoscene magazines were released and in which more or less all aspects of the demoscene have already been discussed in articles. At least this issue of Pain contains one interesting article ("Demos Are").

A great issue again. Not all articles interested me, but there was enough very good stuff in it, and nothing disturbed me. But an extra double applause ("clap calp") for dipswitch's articles. Liked them alot. I had preferred if the "EP" article had appeared in next Hugi, but I suppose I cannot have everything, hmm?
rulez added on the 2004-12-30 11:04:14 by chock chock
Next Hugi will feature an article sized 100 kbytes written by EP, which is about the discussion on his article "How To Save The Demo Scene". About a third of it is related to dipswitch's comments.

background/contrast/font issues makes it a real PAIN to read, which is after all the most important aspect of a diskmag, so no thumb up...
added on the 2005-01-03 17:57:58 by blala blala
the menu system still annoys the hell out of me..
added on the 2005-01-03 18:27:54 by darkus darkus
@ Megadelux: Well, of course I do care what the people think about my articles. Some others in the PAiN team gave that up and don't care anymore as all the time from some specific people only negative comments rushed in. I can understand that at some point you tend not to care about that anymore.

Not that some readers are hypercritical. No, it makes the impression to me that they just enjoy speaking & writing badly about a production.

If you have a fantastic idea for a trip that no reader has explored before. Don't hesitate, write it down and send it! And if there's no decent mag that would deserve it, open your own one instead!

@Darkus: You could install winuae and read JP#13 instead! ;-)))))))

The menu system is strange for the first hour you use it and then it's okay.

i also liked the mag, allthough i had to wait ages for it. i was very anxious if my music would do any good for the mag :) ..

and well, i haven't seen any real comment about the music yet :( ..

should i support PAiN with another tune? :)

articles rulez, interviews rulez, tunes rulez and Delilah's cute elf rulez even more :))

i still cant get used to the "gameplay" of the interface : it's not that funny to make my mouse always do the contrary of what i want her to do :/ that's the only good point of Hugi, Chris Dragan's fine diskmag engine, though shamelessly raped by dumb and dumber and dumberer texts by Adok and EP...

Well Dip, there a difference between hating and not loving, you know.
A big shade.
This is a shaded spirit which is needed to read my articles.

Well being angry, not polite or whatever else than being clever show me and everybody out there that you are not : when you get so quickly angry that means you can't control yourself so we can induce you are violent so dangerous...

Happy new year.

EP, previously known as Edw of Darkness: I really wonder what you're doing at this point.

Do you want a war between some people working for Hugi and some others for PAiN?
Let the readers better decide what they prefer. If you have private problems with Dipswitch or one of his articles, write him a private email. There's no need (and it's less interesting for the rest) to make that in a public way, but that's only my humble opinion.

Give the readers something entertaining to read, some pleasing graphics & nice tune to listen to and it will be easy for you to convince them that your mag is the better one. Reply articles are okay but only interesting for less people. Happy new year!
added on the 2005-01-13 08:04:00 by ghandy ghandy
imho there's no logical meaning to compare hugi & pain ... those are 2 complementary mags that's it.long life to pain & long life to hugi so :)

It's possible to write interesting reply articles - as long as you quote properly and answer properly.
I personally would be eager to see it ;)

Pretty nice mag with a couple of articles worth reading again. It was better than last Hugi but still very mediocre.

ps: when Random told you about the films he liked, he enumerated 4 different things. We call Brazil - Brazilia (it's not that horrible as you might see). But still we are freaking weird people!

gargaj: me trying to tell people what demos are - "Well, that's... no, it's... but ... phh... or just... Ohh, go f*ck yourself!"

the art is very nice, the music is very good too but there should be an option to select the screen resolution (doesn't look good on TFTs) and it could have been a bit better structured.
added on the 2005-04-12 20:04:46 by Lupin Lupin
lupin: better structured how if i may ask.. O_o
added on the 2005-04-12 20:06:22 by psenough psenough
ok i took a look at it again, the structure is good and i now understand the menu, i was just wondering why the screen is fading when i click in the text area :)

But i noticed that the font looks quite blury (i first thought this is because of my TFT but its the same in windowed mode). And maybe texture filtering could have been turned on in the ending scene...
added on the 2005-04-12 20:26:50 by Lupin Lupin
windowed mode causes the picture to be scaled up with bilinear if you resize the window so no wonder the text is blurry.
the outro is softrendered so texture filtering needs to be written i guess :)
added on the 2005-04-12 20:34:16 by Gargaj Gargaj
ok, then its worth a thumb up :)
