Extra points to the coder for discovering a non-existing opcode.. 8-)

I just try today this demo, first real vertical rasters :)

ARG lovely!!
The awesome -> Uncle tom mod "spell_amelioration" the finished version of "spell" from the sae Scoopex megademo (1989)

It is in fact spell + occ-san-geen (see sevensins-scoopex or Freddy Is Back-paradox!

I was surprise to recognise the melodie in this one :) Phun with the spell instruments!

Hehe Uncle tom, my "fav" musician with Marrillon

StanZ: "real vertical rasters"... yeah, sure...
HAM6 + modulostretching... :)
Slemmy: so this means this could easily have been Kefrens bars f only they were good enough? ;)

Well, the only issue here is to plot the pixels in a way that avoids HAM-artifacts. With quick enough calculations&plotting kefrens bars should work out. Haven't looked into *how* much rastertime it would require though.. :)
Lol ok, I thought it was possible because of your comment ;)
And if I believed this was mostly changing a color n time in a vbl to create n horizontal bars, I said myself, why finally the result is always horizontal, so ;P
If i remember, there were 16 real colors in ham6 mode, the trick was to use them for the borders pixels of the bars (to avoid ham "garbage" between them) and to use bitplanes 5 and 6 for the rest of the colors.

Btw, if i'm not mistaken what you call "kefrens" bars were in reality invented by metalwar/alcatraz (and not detron/kefrens) in the demo "we are first" (megademo 3).

Uncle Tom's tune alone would make this a classic, but the code isn't that bad either. Dandelion, you might want to check out "Diagonal Insanity" by Amonia :)

Btw, the hidden part is accessed by holding down the right mouse button while decrunching the demo. Thanks to you-know-who-you-are for pointing this out :)

Hmm... how did they avoid HAM tearing when displaying a bar behind and to the right of another bar?

What was that command.. movef? Really nice one, one of the best tunes by Uncle Tom.

Didn't know move.w -(a2),d1 was an undocumented opcode ;)

Thumb because it was fresh at the time!

I'm sure Doctor No simply meant that the rasters being "real" rasters is because horizontal ones can be RGB and these are RGB, whereas Alcatrazbars are not RGB.

So this is HAM with copper stretching, similar to the Halfbrite+copper stretch I did for the RGB tunnel in Uncle Tom Sonix. So there might be some nice tricks to pull with this left to do :)

move.w -(a2),d1?
added on the 2016-04-29 20:30:34 by moredhel moredhel
It's the "undocumented" opcode mentioned in the scroller. $3222 = move.w -(a2),d1.
added on the 2016-04-29 20:42:25 by StingRay StingRay
$3222 / 2 = ???

This is hard rocking stuff for 1990, and still looks awesome. Smooth and perfect, great music also.

Music isn't my flavour but I've always been of the opinion that more colors = better screen.
