My modest contribution to the Oldskool Compo at Solskogen. If you like it, you should give a try to the actual game: Get and emulator (Oricutron is a good bet), print the maps of moonbase alpha and the game manual, and have some fun playing an authentic oldskool isometric 3d adventure game :)

I played the game weeks ago: it's a fantastic piece of code which made me love Oric more and more!

very nice demonstration of the oric's capabilities. its a bit static but that's okay for a trailer :)

I like this very much. Make me want to actually explore what I can do with that Oric-1 I've had laying around for a couple of years.

I just need to find a way to send data between my PC and the Oric.

Nice :)

Tick: Just use an audio cable, and "Tap2Wav" or "Tap2CD", and load it as a normal tape on the Oric side.

For disk stuff, that's not as easy, basically you need to fit a 3" drive in your pc, and depending of your motherboard/os, you may or may not be able to write to it with tools like "WriteDsk".

hArDy: I think the harder to implement trick is actually the "how to give the illusion you can do fades-in and out with a fixed palette containing only the pure RGB colors" :)

Finally added the source code of the intro. Its not as clean as I would like it to be, but it's the best I could achieve before going to the party, and I don't feel like doing the code clean-up now:
http://miniserve.defence-force.org/svn/public/oric/games/Space%201999/Sources/trailer/

If you move up one level you also get the full source code of the Space:1999 game, if somebody dare trying to port it to some other 6502 machine, I believe Chema would be fine with that :)

What exactly do I hear? What soundchip generates this music?
added on the 2010-07-19 13:00:40 by johny johny
The Oric has a similar soundchip as the Amstrad, MSX, or Spectrum 48k. It's a AY-3-8912 from General Instrument running at 1mhz, basically a lower frequency variant of the Yamaha YM 2149 used on the Atari ST.
added on the 2010-07-19 13:16:55 by Dbug Dbug
Ah, it's most interesting.
A small info - 48K has an AY as an option to buy (a habit comes from ZX81 times). Later only 128K had AY built in.
Anyway. A cool demo.
