What an idea. I am impressed. Great concept, extremely well put into motion! Worthy winner.
I hope never to find the supersecretkeycombo for the HaHa-Mode ;)

very very nice concept, and also very well executed!

Excellent production :-)

There's a hidden "extreme speedcore" mode in the game. Just play your way to level 12, go game over, let the game reside in the "game over" screen for about 5 minutes, then press space to enter start screen and quickly press space again to start a new game :D

(1) forgot to thumb up (2) also I guess even JCO himself doesn't know about that secret mode ;-)

Skills on so many levels. Very slick design visually imo, and the music, well... thumb

So it's a single player tron, on a cube with a coupled sample player. I'm not sold. :P

I'm so glad it works under WINE. This game was love at first sight (at the Evoke).

I didn't quite catch what the actual qualifiers in the game was from the live footage, but it looks and sounds really smooth :)

just seen the video http://youtu.be/c148vMM2OL0 awesome!!!
Do you get points for hitting the corners on time? great! would be cool if you receive extra points turning towards the edge even earlier. I mean directly at the edge its quite easy to hit the sequence 1.. further away: more difficult.

kabuto: oh, ahem... so i keep increasing the bpm while in game over state... interesting. i mean, ITS NOT A BUG, ITS A FEATURE ;)

msk: input lag is most likely bound to audio lag. you can try decreasing the "buffer multiplier" in the ini to 1. audio lag is pretty low, but it's at least what BASS gives me as recommended minimum buffer size. only way to make audio latency lower would be to switch to asio. i'll keep it in mind for the next version.

thanks for all your feedback!
added on the 2011-08-15 14:31:33 by jco jco
jco: From Vista onwards, WASAPI is the way to go for Windows low-latency audio; should work on more hardware than ASIO does.

Apart from that: Yeah, the game is a bit simplistic but as an exercise or demo of dynamic music it works really, REALLY well.

This is really excellent and a great experiment! Aside from the coding i'm sure a substantial amount of work went into the loop creation, which are all brilliant and they work so well in-game with your techniques. A highly deserved 1st place congrats, look forward to music-game-v2 :)

just a small hint, to perform an edge sync your edge sync bar should be filled while your turn sync bar has surpassed the middle, only then while you turn to the other side of the cube will you have a perfect edge sync :)

Wow! This has to be the most inspiring demoscene production for me in a long time. Gotta love the Rez-esque vibes and simple yet efficient game design.

Although I have to second Blueberry here: If you're going to make any final version, add score to the game over screen :)
rulez added on the 2011-08-20 19:44:43 by melw melw
btw, it would be really nice if pressing ESC returned to the menu screen instead of quitting the game. :)
Cool new 3d nibbles game. Very polished, and the syncing engine makes it above average.

Should be shown in the game compo, not wild, imho...
Anyway.. Very nice idea for a good, addictive game!

Yes! It is demo'ish!
It is very very dynamic!
Pure rules!
It highly involves attention.
I love every game with music engine which adjusts to gameplay.
Gaves a lot of fun and it's very addictive.

What Moqui said. In 2011.

Also I wish there were a few more stages after Tranceworm. Maybe progress through "chipworm" (150 BPM), "dnbworm" (170) and "oldschool jungleworm" (180) before going to town with the hardcore stage.

Ya I know it was just a proof of concept, but I want moar. :P
