I don't like that opening picture at all, but the music kicks ass. I expected a little more scene news and some of them are already outdated (and TMDC4 should be TMDC5).

The survey results were interesting to read, I just wish more people had participated. I'd have liked more party reports too, so write them! I don't think there's too much poetry and the coder-minded ones can always skip them. ;-P

Thanks Adok and everyone else who supported Hugi.

another hugi issue, another disappointment. as if i knew it already. i would like to downthumb it commentless, but as i'm not the one who just bashes releases down, i'll go into detail:

- i laughed my ass off at the "news". whats the point of publishing stuff everyone knows already ? how about some EXCLUSIVE news like in pain ? i mean, making an advert titled "mindcandy demo-dvd coming soon", after the dvd is available quite long enough ? what for... if you can't get up-to-date news, then leave it alone.

- 70% of the music was horrible... or perhaps not horrible technically, but if you do music for a diskmag, it has to be "background" music and not music that gets on your nerves after 5 minutes.

- now honestly, how many of the articles are really scene-related ? maybe 50%, maybe 60% ? that's still too few. if you claim to be a scene-diskmag, then do scene-content please, and not "how to make winamp skins" and dozens of poems.

- the only REALLY good thing was the chiptune tutorial by vhiiula, GREAT!!! i could have needed this one some years ago, and will still learn enough things out of it... and the interview with tomcat was also neat, but it's copied from a polish amiga mag and is over 1 year old, so where's the point ?

so, definetely thumbs down, sorry. and please don't come with "come on, we have to support diskmags" and stuff. yes we have to, but adok is making hugi (ex-hugendubelexpress) since 1996 or smth, and yet i don't see a major improvement contentwise.

some "coding & math" articles are good. but some old wildmag diskmags are better than this one. btw: i want a new wildmag issue.

diver, nice to hear, but we let wildmag die 1.5 years ago. We had plans for an 64kb reincarnation (in English language), but obviously we never really made it. :)

In general I have my differences with dipswitch, but in this case I agree with him.

> i mean, making an advert itled "mindcandy demo-dvd coming soon",

Heehee.. it's not my fault I submitted the article over FOUR months ago. :) PAiN and Static Line both published it in October. At least I saved my hide with "by the time you read this article, it may already be available".

there were interesting articles like scene.ar and one about atari + the tomcats interview but hey thats not enough and the serious-official-retarded-hugi attitude makes me sick

i dont hate hugi, but its not any good, time to grow?

The gfx (incl. mainmenu font) weren't really top-notch, also the background music wasn't obviously suitable, since it was more popmusic than elevatormusic. The articles also seemed a bit thin.. I don't know. I used to like Hugi, but this issue was left way behind the latest PAiN. Too bad, I liked to have two mags competing each other..

This ain't still all bad, there's some very interesting stuff like the Lazur interview.

Actually I think that this one is better than most of the previous Hugis(and beats almost any Pain issue). I'm not very much into techno, though.
rulez added on the 2003-02-26 12:18:29 by JDruid JDruid
dipswitch: error - Budyn is not an Amiga diskmag but PC. A version with some English articles will be soon released.

And now a few words about Hugi. Well, I hoped there would be more articles in the scene's section. We were waiting quite long, so it would be natural.

I agree about the opinion on the music - music is a background so it should be more ambient - the music in Hugi has too much energy so it isn't making reading easier.

Code, graphics and design are gr8 - and the interface much better that the one in Pain.

It always have many interesting articles to read. I liked some of the real life articles. Many interesting scene and interviews articles for me to read. The coders corner was smaller and were the heck is baze's article about 256b intros? I wish he is still planning to write it. The musics are many and very nice (How come, PAiN has only one music per issue?). Another cool issue to spend my night on..
rulez added on the 2003-02-26 14:45:33 by Optimus Optimus
I liked the presentation, I enjoyed the music, and there are some gifted writers among the Hugi staff.

But I have to agree with Dipswitch, at least on his point about the news and the lack of scene content. I'm afraid the articles held no interest for me in the slightest.

disapointing,

lots of articles, but how many interesting ones ?

pain is imho better, has several good regular writers and feels more scenish than hugi.

and please no more diskmagpop..

still, thanks adok & the whole team for taking the time to make it.. two active diskmags isn't enough.

stop glopping and write articles.

i just can 100% agree on dipswitchs opinion (at least as long as we dont start talking about blackmaiden releases ;o).
the chip txt was interesting but beside of this there was nothing interesting.
and all those dozends of tutorials and "interviews" with all the l33t winamp skinnAs is as interesting as counting the cars at your street

says the one who got KICKED FROM RAZOR 1911 PWAHAEHEAHAEHEAH fuuuck ;-)

anyway, the 'older' hugi's were a lot better. i read thru it in 10 minutes i guess.. and that's fast, considering the fact that i usually like to read diskmags. the audiovisual content also became a lot crappier.

dalezy: how about the "mirrors" link?

well. for once it seems that i almost completely agree with dipswitch, altho the chiptune tutorial wasn't that interesting for me ;)

very bad gfx, generally bad music (and erm, i don't want to listen to fast-paced untz untz or chiptunes while reading mags, even if they were good), a few good articles, and like a cherry on a cake: a LOT of totally irrelevant bullshit :)

louk's music reviews, winamp skinning, literature (if i want literature, i read a book, thank you very much), plus the coding tutorials aren't really my cup of tea :)

As expected good coding articles, better than Pain in that domain with some little compos, some articles are interesting, of course there's this usual "demoscene and realife" shit that we all don't care about. The diskmag seriously lacks of good graphics.
added on the 2003-02-27 14:54:19 by dake^cdx dake^cdx
nice one...but not highclass.

@plek:
since u like reading diskmags (what a suprise he doesnt only read pouet)...maybe u should have a look in the new pain-disk-mag...read the article "another one on pouet" and think to whom it is concerned.
i still like hugi... keep the good work going...

izm: if you guys werent so worthless perhaps i could care a little.

bp: i read it! and it was a boring, uninteresting article. i can't care about the "quality" of this site's content.

This issue really disappointed me :\

Dipswitch said it pretty good... another sucky issue of Hugi, sadly :(

Fortunately some other diskmags still have the magical scene feeling (Jurassic Pack, PAiN, Eurochart, WorldCharts..).

true, not much demoscene in this one,but still ... im sure it will be better next time.

plek: if u werent so arrogant maybe u would notice that noone really cares about what u think about us except yerself.u can always sook to me on ircnet instead posting some worthless comments here.
and then maybe, just maybe, quality of this site will get better aswell.

Yeech, Hugi used to be so cool, but got worse and worse over time. I hope that Adok will somehow learn from the comments above, I agree with most of what was said.
There was just too much irrelevant stuff in this mag, and while I usually enjoy reading even such things, this time most of them just bored the hell out of me.
The graphics were ok to my eyes. Some of the background music was ok as well, but some of it was just annoying and badly tracked. I still remember the main bg music in Hugi #13 - *that* was a diskmag tune!
I just hope Hugi will regain its quality in the future. But for now, my new favourite mag is Pain.

plek, save your insults for our productions if you want to attack us, but why attack marisa over nothing to do with this diskmag? if you dont like her, tell your ombudsman or a local senator, and btw, were all still waiting for something you have coded, cos you sure talk a good game, but where is your walk?
added on the 2003-02-28 06:39:19 by IZM- IZM-
Hugi - where have you gone? I was really looking forward for this issue, still having a strange feeling in my stomach. But what now entered my hd, I myself can´t consider it as a scenerelated production anymore. Those articles from Styx did hit my interest, I finished the whole issue by reading maybe four articles in a total time of 20 minutes.

No, this statement does not have anything to do with the fact that I´m a staffmember of PAiN. And not with the fact I was previously writing for Hugi many months ago.

Kids like SUPERPLEK and others make Pouet so shitty it actually is. The idea behind Pouet is really fantastic, the scripts are also. It was all destroyed by a few respectless bigmouths that like to see their name everywhere. And as the man behind Pout doesn´t erase any accounts, or do any sort of censorship, those guys will go on our nerves until the end of time! The only solution would be to boycot Pouet totally, and to move to forums like TotalKaos.de in order to avoid those lamers!

my coding is in 4 intros and 8 demos, in the period 1997<->now, statistically seen.

and ghandy, analogue would never erase me ;) now go hide in your trader/oldskool/seen-watchdog hole or whatever it is you do that makes no sense.

i hope you feel better now, oh great watchdog ;-) go write some more useless articles or try to introduce a sound moral on scene-related forums, that'll make you one hell of a guy.
added on the 2003-02-28 22:54:35 by superplek superplek
I did not feel worse before and I do not now. Besides, I am no watchdog. Maybe I´m not as young as many other visitors are here. But that doesn´t make me being a watchdog.

It is not surprising if other Sceners start to move away from Pouet. It´s the profit of yours and others, that abuse public places like this for their emotional needs - so THEY can feel better after they´ve posted their latest flame.

It seems you never had the chance to tell others in your real life what you think and feel. So you hide here in the bushes to get rid of your bad feelings. Or is it plain stupidity? I honestly don´t know.

People with the biggest mouth in the anonymous world of the internet often don´t have the courage to express their opinion in real life. Let us meet at Breakpoint, have a beer or two and speak about it - just like everyone else also would do so. But it is surely easier to have your big mouth here in the net, where you have the feeling to be warm & save.
added on the 2003-03-01 07:21:08 by ghandy ghandy
ghandy, all i've seen you do is shout about morals and diss poles. you're a watchdog.

added on the 2003-03-01 11:15:59 by skrebbel skrebbel
I´m not going to comment this. If anybody has problems with my person, just write me an email or chat with me at Breakpoint.

Coming back to Hugi and that´s what we should do here - I was probably a bit harsh with my critics. We should not forget how much work this mag made for Adok. If we like it or not, he still earns respect for all the time he has spend! The fruitful "watchdog" signs off ;-)))
