Had a good vibe and got me in a good mood. Some parts were maybe a bit too psychedelic, but overall a good show!

For bugs:
- out (#fd),a (#80ef) - crash on Scorpion.
- Scrolling top of screen filled with stars.
- Wrong screenshot for greets in outro.

6 coders could manage this.

For design:
- 8x8 song in lines. 8x8 this, 8x8 that. Finally 8x8 zoomrotator, windowed!
- Wireframe objects without perspective. Which direction they are rotating?
- Elvis stuff. Wtf?

Nothing personal.
sucks added on the 2013-03-24 12:43:33 by Alone_Coder Alone_Coder
Alone:
- read file_id.diz. No fucking Scoripon support. Even timing for Pentagon was a not planned bonus.
- what's bad on scrolling stars?!
- I know about it but noone from the guys wanted to compile the outro again because of this pic. The pic has been made before the greetings part was made. That's why it's a bit different.

One Alone Coder could undertand this.

- what's wrong on 8x8?
- what's wrong on no perspective?
- what's wrong on Elvis stuff? (it was the Forever 14 theme, fyi)

Nothing personal.

Trd was not done by us, bu we asked a friend. better use original machine (zx spectrum) then bad copy (scorpion).

Elvis lives was a topic for forever14.

Demos were watched by people from various 8 bit platforms (Atari, C64, Amiga...) and they decided, not us. that's a party, you have to attract people watching bigscreen.
Alone you're so vain and selfish... nothing personal? Your post is so personal as it gets. Why you can't accept the fact that humor has won over your technique on 100 votes? And what's wrong with Elvis stuff? The supporting theme of this year's Forever was "Elvis Lives", and we tried to keep this topic. If you can't understand it, I'm sorry...

Really love the music in this one, design most of the time is nice, but sometimes the colors are really eye cancerous, code most of the time isn't anything special, but does its job. Good parameters/textures hide the low resolution of 8x8 effects. The highlights for me are interference, falling lines and greetings.

Well, first thanks for fixing demo to pentagon, I was able to see it on my zx-evo.
Then, some out (#FD),A'ism seems to me strange as well.
Finally, I was quite disappointed looking into tunnes/ball tmapper and seeing only animation there (well, maybe it was precalced just before the effect starts or during fadein of effect, didnt dig that deep). BTW, some demos with real (I hope :) 4x4 tmap: stellar contour, mescaline synestethia, rage.

Overall, looks rather nice!

lvd, even Eye Ache has it in 1996. Eye Ache 2 in 1997 literally states: "no lame 8*8 dots".
Large amount of stuff in this one!

2 bulb@: fuck you! You are fucking troll and you know shit what you talking about. How do you dare to criticize people who did the work for fun, and for PARTY at first (which had some topic), AND to entertain people. What's wrong with the oldschool? What's wrong with 8*8, which is the native graphic mode of criticized platform? Or the whole platform is wrong? There were 70+ people on the party, it's their decision, it's their votes. The problem is not in the We Are Alive demo, the problem is that there are people like you. You think you are elite, but the scene is far away from that. For me you are crap. Do something, DO ANYTHING, then I'll change my opinion. Meantime go to hell and don't arise until you have ANYTHING that will take some attention. Don't care if it'll be elite code or lame. Most people don't care this shit. Then you MAYBE will get right to criticize something here...

The reason Speccy scene activity dropped off sharply after the "golden age" of 1997-2001 is that it became too hard to raise the bar, to create something that hadn't been seen before. We're all getting older, with more responsibilities and less incentive to spend months on end working on a new killer effect. Now, finally we're seeing demos like this and MCMXCVII by thesuper where people are rediscovering the fun that we had back then without the need to break records. A hearty FUCK YOU to anyone who would try to shut that activity down.

Major kudos to Alone Coder for taking the hard route with his demo and continuing to push the boundaries, but this demo is doing just as much, or more, to bring back the demoscene spirit. As a wise man once said: if you can't respect that, your whole perspective is whack.

girls, if you'll shit brick after 'prod sux', time to say 'byebye' to pouet.net and begun to create new demoeffects.
z00m, if variable n doesn't defined, some compilers turn to n=0. Go and teach mathematics, motherfucker.
Gasman, then you'll back to demo? you have a lot of demos, not borrowed from source. But...hey, sharing sources led to piece of shit like this prod.

lol @ comments. I've never really understood what's so bad about using 8x8. "IT'S NOT HIRES, BOOHOO". Who the fuck cares, the end result is what matters.

It's like saying that painting with a big brush instead of a small one automatically results in a bad painting. No, it's the resulting artwork that's the meaningful experience.

the transitions / syncs in the beggining were good. it has some nice effects. and some decent (even if silly) pseudo theme. but the 8x8 abuse was kinda lame. and it all got boring after a while. nice music though. thumbup for the work put into the first screens and transitions.

visy: i agree with you on the 8x8, but in this case the end result was still mostly ugly, they used it as a quick fix for fast framerate effects that didn't really fit with the rest nor looked particularly interesting. the only one decently matching was the earth rotation which still looked horrible due to the extreme low res.
added on the 2013-03-25 08:12:27 by psenough psenough
Nice demo, almost there. Thank you and congrats for winning the compo.

I can understand 8x8 chunky debate. As we are getting old, unpolished demo count getting higher. I must say spectrum demo quality getting bad over the years. Note that, I'm not a coder, but I know how hard and time consuming it is to polish an effect, and optimizing code is just a waste of time in today's world.

For example in "we are alive" my favorite part is "greetings" logo animation. it's slick, pixel perfect, alive. :)

A very good work although it really lacks originality. But I like it has a kind of story - about Elvis! And I agree it is not so easy to invent something breathtakingly original today - after so many great and pathbreaking Speccy demos.

Pretty damn nice demo! Great content, good (and classic!) effects, graphics and vibes. The chunky offs-map effects feel a bit repetitive and overdone, specially when the texture is kinda shitty. I loved the little storyline in the demo, crazy stuff :)!
