The demo is nice, but honestly wtf... a mix of german and english in the title?
For what reason exactly?
You should be a little more consistent here.
Stick to one language next time, please.
Unless you want to make a historical reference, but do you?

It just sounds as stupid as for example: "The last trip to München"
added on the 2015-10-18 02:54:53 by tomkh tomkh
The only correct forms are:
"Der letzte Zug nach Danzig"
or
"The last train to Gdańsk"

OK about the title... about the démo?

As I said, demo is nice. I would give a thumb.
added on the 2015-10-18 03:10:06 by tomkh tomkh
tomkh: The title is an allusion to the fact that the demo is a German / Polish cooperation.
added on the 2015-10-18 03:13:09 by hfr hfr
hfr: oh really, so why you say: "Presented at Danzig" later on ?
added on the 2015-10-18 03:16:24 by tomkh tomkh
While "Presented at LoadError in Gdańsk" is the right form.
added on the 2015-10-18 03:17:23 by tomkh tomkh
Also, if you want to really emphasise German / Polish cooperation, why not:
"Ostatni przystanek Danzig", or something like that, but still sounds silly.
As for now, this rather suggest English / German cooperation, if not just being just a language mistake.
added on the 2015-10-18 03:20:20 by tomkh tomkh
Too short, but what's there is top class. Clear thumbs up.

Also five posts criticising the title of the demo has to be some kind of record.
rulez added on the 2015-10-18 04:07:43 by Alpha C Alpha C
And just one more thing (sorry for writing in chunks, its kinda late).
"The last train to Danzig" would make sense as a historical reference, say the last train going to Danzig, the city that existed between 1920-1939, and was renamed to Gdańsk (in Polish and English) few years later. However, this is very clear message/reference (at least to every educated person) and no, it doesn't suggest Polish/German cooperation as you say your intention was.
Now, if this would be the case, which as an artistic expression is totally fine, you should still write "Presented at Load Error in Gdańsk (in 2015)" as you are referring to present days.
added on the 2015-10-18 04:12:40 by tomkh tomkh
"Danzig" has been a valid name for Gdańsk for centuries, no wonder it still sticks around a bit. I've seen contemporary Dutch and English language sources still using that historical name. No need to nitpick over such a detail if the prod is that good, imho.

tomkh: Are you for real? That level of butthurt is off the scale. Why don't you go danzig in the rain a bit? That might calm you down.

Trains.. What's next clocks? (Hi slayer ;))

Anyway great to see the ghostown cooperating with the Haujobb. I remember a certain msg at ADA website asking about it..

Hope this is the start of a great cooperation. Didn't expect hellfire to be part of it. Great great.. Hope a big demo will see the light in 2016 than.. Keep it up guys!!! Cheers!!!

What a great time we had at the party! Thanks and massive props to Sachy and all orgas for pulling off this flawless event - and to the party people for the unique athmosphere!

I just returned home safely with the first plane from Gdańsk (!) and it saddens me to read this stubborn thread clutter above.

As a factual response I might add to what Hellfire said that this is a steampunk / steam train themed demo and the last time I checked there was no exact year attached to its definition, but it was certainly a bit on the older side (maybe around 1900 you say? Might be.). Your 7 (!) posts/rants on this same topic so far also seem to have a certain underlying German-Polish allegation that I can't believe we are seriously discussing here now. So let me state this very clearly: the title of the demo and the screen-design was actually proposed by our friends from the art department and everybody liked it because it sounded nice and looked cool (+1 Sensenstahl). And you do realize that they are Polish, don’t you?

On a more emotional level you just seem like a very rude and disrespectful (for other people’s serious demo effort) person to me now. This is my first demo in five years and it is thus naturally dear to my heart. We worked very hard for weeks and weeks to finish it off and to present it at the first Polish demo-party with an Amiga compo in over a decade. It therefore saddens me to see this level of stubbornness in your contribution to the discussion of the demo. Thanks for that!

Everybody heard your point of view now, and I beg to differ. I am happy to discuss this further with you, if you really insisted. And as you are a creative (and educated!) person as well, I am sure you understand that in that case I would propose we take that discussion, which was initiated by you, to a thread that is more closer to your heart, e.g. in your production which is rather fittingly called Wind Down. And I also invite other people to follow. Thanks for your understanding.

noname: I agree that Steampunk theme fits well to Danzig, just not in "presented in...". Also hfr suggested different reason, hence my response. Anyway, its your choice, if other people like, even better. I just wanted to point out its incorrect to refer to the city like this in present days. What part of my message is rude or insulting or making any kind of allegations? It is chunked and split into few messages, because pouet doesn't let you reedit and precisely, because I was afraid I will be understood wrongly. Yet really sorry if it sounds like a stuborn conservative/whatever - that is far from what I meant.

Short but sweet. Always nice to see a 3D-heavy AGA demo that doesn't look like pixelated texture goulash.

My favourite AGA-prod from Ghostown so far. While others may have "felt larger" I really like this one for being compact and punchy.
Obviously very professional code (as one would expect) and a much more consistent experience than any amiga-demo from Haujobb ever was.

I'm fine with short demos, but there's something oddly hollow about a demo that consists of nothing but titles and credits for itself (even if those titles and credits are brilliantly crafted, as they are here). It's like the demo equivalent of this sketch.

I'm with Gasman on this one, looks and sounds awesome but seems to consist of just a credits part (which sure looks ace) and some graphics for me. Doesn't work as demo for me.

Gasman, that sketch and this demo have an identical 2 min 16 sec runtime. Is this spooky coincidence, or careful preselection on your part?

And you do realize it was mainly Jewish people in the trains like this to Danzig/Stutthof, don't you?

But yeah, nevermind, I understand it is unintentional. Also there is completely no association with the movie "Der letzte Zug" (The last train). So let it be what it is - Steampunk with Zubruvka cargo.

What a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious demo in all aspects (except that it's way too short). And silly discussion here.
rulez added on the 2015-10-19 12:42:49 by Preacher Preacher
Preacher: the discussion may in fact appear silly, as this is merely a language mistake. I admitted it's fairly ok already and thumb the demo up. And I don't know why people like putt3r are still digging the topic?!
For foreigners to understand: it can be compared to a situation that let say you have a party in Leipzig and you put "Presented in Leipsic, Germany" for artistical reasons, as Leipsic is the old English name before it was renamed to Leipzig. There should be nothing wrong for people living in the current Leipzig, just a minor language mistake. Not that I think it makes sense, but it certainly doesn't hurt anyone. I also should myself be a bit more delicate in voicing my point next time.

what is there is really nice and polish(ed) but it feels to me like it tries to be more epic than it actually is, given the rather low amount of actual content and the fact that slayers train pic isnt exactly fresh.
still, a very solid and nice production and i dont have any problem with the name either :)

Great demo! I love every part of it, specially the Zubrowka cargo on the train to Danzig (both being an actual party reference). The code and the art quality doesn't need any extra comment from me, I'd just cite what others already said. For the party org such demo is a dream come true, so thanks for your support, I hope the party coding didn't suck that much this time and Zubrowka's taste in our party's atmosphere was a kind of the reward too ;) Noname - thanks for your personal effort (visiting the party just for a few hours to finish the demo) and all the funny party discussions. Hope to see you here again or to meet you at any other party in the future. Great thanks to Sushi Boyz for all your support all the time, it helped to make it happen.

As for the demo name - I know the local history very well, I live in Gdansk more than half of my life, my family lost few members during WWII and I don't have any issue with the demo title. In fact, I find it cool as an artistic way to emphasize Polish-German friendly cooperation and support the party by giving demo a name related to it. So please, let's cool down and enjoy the scene prod - the scene way.

Peace to all Scene Bros!

I'm a "trainophile" sucker for huge steel thingies on tracks, so totally digging it.
And blown away to see ye olde warhorses stepping back into the ring after 5 years and team up with the polish Steampunk Varieté.
If only the thing would've had 2 more scenes. It's over the moment you're becoming aware that your on some hell of a ride.

I gotta agree with gasman on this one. Looks and feel brilliant (as always), but it really is hollow.
added on the 2015-10-20 23:32:27 by dwarf dwarf
StingRay, arguably it was more to the "point" ;) For me this one here is ok, it's not offending or anything, just rather misleading, that's all. Besides the fact it is the mix of two languages, "last" could also refer to many things, like the last train to catch this day or the last one before the city name has changed ;)? Or the last one to catch to be on time at the party. Apparently there are also couple of movies and TV series with a similar title, like a post-apocalyptic drama "The Last Train". There is even a song name: "Last Train to Clarksville", which funnily enough brought some controversy, because Clarksville is next to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, yet authors have a stance that the song has nothing to do with it or Vietnam war.

All of this made me wonder as usual things have meanings and IMHO artist are in fact responsible to at least make some prior-studies to find out what will be the potential message and if this message is on par with their intent. But apparently, there was little to no thought behind this title, other than hinting at Polish/German cooperation and (presumably) Steampunk theme. And no, I really don't mind this title, but I was simply curious. To be honest, I still don't understand what is the point of mixing languages in credits, but nevermind. Maybe it's about consistency between the title and the credits, or maybe, just maybe, the authors were not aware what is a proper English name that people use in mainstream sources today. But since, of course, I was immediately recognized as an enemy or some kind of extremist, we will never know ;)

I agree with Gasman, this demo is less than a sum of its parts somehow, even though the code is obviously excellent, the art is stunning and the soundtrack is perfectly fitting. However, there is one truly redeeming "demo" moment here from my point of view - the moment when the title screen kick in, with the train passing in the background, when the beat turns out to be the train's wheel noise, - this is true cinematography. Fantastic stuff.

The 2D art is great. The music is OK. Some of the effects look like stored video (the rotating wheels), and some of them like stored 3D animations (the shatter effect), so it leaves me a bit empty. (I'd love to be proven wrong.)

Jazzcat: I´ve spotted "Shades" in the intro. After listening the 3rd time. Well done ;)

It's good to see the Haujobb guys back and the demo looks stunning, but it's so short it feels like it ends just after the introduction.

i was ready to thumb this up, and seems quite solid, but where is the rest of the demo? i mean it is just the intro followed by the outro, there should be at least more content in the middle.

This gave me big expectations but then just ended. I'd love to see some content before the endscroller. Anyhow, I like what I saw, and looking forward to seeing more from you!

Seen on the bigscreen and liked it :)
Unfortunately, it reboots my amiga (060, clean boot, setpatch 43.6) the moment it starts. So I'm waiting for final version that will work :)

Really liked the exploding blocks part, but yeah. I would have liked 1/20 block count and real explosions more :)

I would like to say though that I agree with criticisms, obviously made for quick pace. But it works, I would say! And a demo is where gfx compo graphics should be! Especially Slayer's excellent winner pic :) Glitch effects seem to cry out for sounds to go with them :) but overall this is good-looking and runs without problems (and quicker than in the Youtube... so real Amiga is recommended).

Demos have always been about promoting yourself and your group :) So I don't mind "just consists of credits", please add spinning scanned heads of everyone involved! Hehe. But when it's design-driven and short like this, you're not allowed to "get into" the demo I think.

Quite nice, but has just terrible size-to-length ratio! :- ) (size in bytes, length in seconds). Quits at random times on the endscroller, so no way to read it (winuae).
Wheels scenes are definitely not anim, but are nonsense from the mechanical point of view :)

Just watched this again on youtube and I thought the subtlesmoke effects in the end scroller and intro looked really good. Are they particle based or are they a series of crossfading images?
added on the 2017-01-26 04:53:03 by rloaderro rloaderro
Hi Loaderror! The smoke consists of a few additive 'particles' (basically textured shadebobs), dithered during C2P from 8bpp into 5 bitplanes.

Awesome visuals and high framerate!

I order to make this run (Apollo 1260@80mhz / 64MB) I have to do the following:
- boot without startup sequence
- run setpatch
- run "stack 10000" before running the demo
