Kinda nice. Look good on the screenshot, in realtime it doesn't look much like grass in the foreground and the motion is pretty strange. Might work better with different colours so we're not expecting grass?

psonice: Thanks for feedback! Motion does look strange especially on windows, where it comes in weird discrete visible waves with noticeable color desync. There's no such issue on either OSX or Linux. I've yet to figure this out.
Anyway, this is a rather fast prod, so there is sure a lot of space for improvements.

Just had a quick experiment with the shader. Try setting the wind displacement to use a much smaller wave, with much smaller scale too and a bit slower.

I think half the 'unrealism' problem is that you have short grass, but motion like really deep, waist high grass. A smaller wind scale is more like the way shorter grass moves.

(and btw, I do like it as it is.. it's the combination of 'looks like short grass' and 'moves like deep grass' that looks weird. Different colours = mind not expecting it to move like grass :D)

Well, originally I did model a waist-high grass, only it took forever to march through.
Tried your suggestions and that way it does look somewhat more realistic, thanks! It also makes me want to continue working on it and fix/improve other stuff, but I'm kinda low on time budget here :D.

yeah, if it had been waist-high grass with decent speed, my mind would have been blown :D That's really worst-case raymarching. You either cut accuracy and get horrible glitching, or you keep accuracy and get either horrible speed or horrible draw distance / distortion :(

I'm with you on the time budget too. Anyway, good luck if you try and push it a bit further, the starting point is good :)
