: The history of Just Musix 4 :
           : :
: In the summer of 1998, at the time when DHS were :
: as most active, doing multiple releases each :
: month we began planning for a fourth module music :
: disk in the Just Musix series. :
           : :
: We got a few non-dhs mhusicans to join up for the :
: project, and we started to code it. In fact, at :
: the end of 1998, most stuff were finished. There :
: was an interface, a lot of music and it actually :
: seemed to work. Now, we were only waiting for the :
           : graphics. :
           : :
: While waiting for graphics, we coded an ST-demo :
: called Sweety for the Error In Line party which :
: took place at easter 1999. While the ST-demo :
: didn't impress the audience very much, our nearly :
: forgotten Falcon demo that we handed in as a :
: compo filler actually won the compo. As a prize :
: there we received one of the new powerful :
           : Centurbo 2b cards. :
           : :
: After som quirks installing the Centurbo 2, we :
: found out that the Graoumf replaycode used in :
: Just Musix 4 didn't work with the accelerator. :
: Doh! All inspiration to finish it disapeared. :
           : :
: About one year later, Earx of FUN released an :
: updated graoumf tracker replay which worked :
: with the Centurbo 2! Jippie! Now let's finish :
: it. However, the graphics were were missing :
: already in 1998 hadn't yet showed up. So we :
: coded a new menu which didn't need all that :
: much graphics, and we threw something together :
: ourself. A few months later, the damn thing :
: appeard finished, just a few puny details left to :
           : correct. :
           : :
: Then we realised that the shell we had done did :
: not function on bare 16MHz Falcons - the Graoumf :
: tracker replay uses up nearly 100% CPU in some :
: cases, so any graphics movement was out of the :
: question. Then we had to chose - a boting still :
: image menu of 16MHz, or make a new version with :
           : lower resolution and colour-depth on 16MHz. :
           : :
: We selected the latter and before we even began :
: the light version, we lost motivation. JM4 then :
: laid untouched until about summer of 2003. :
: We had got the CT60 accelerator, and wanted to :
: begin coding new stuff for it. But first we :
: get all old stuff out, so we could concentrate :
: on the new. What a disapointment when we noticed :
: the Graoumf replay once again played tricks on :
           : us - it didn't work on CT60. Motivation was :
: again gone, and the music demo went on ice for :
           : yet another time. :
           : :
           : Yesterday, march 11, 2005 we got a question from :
           : 505 about what's up - perhaps we could just :
: release the modules instead, as there just is :
: no foreseable release date for the actual demo. :
: It trigged us a bit, to try the replayer again :
: on CT60, a lliittle bit more carefully this time. :
: It would seem that the player does work if we :
: keep the 060 CPU caches off. Yay! Why the hell :
: didn't we try this two years ago?? :
           : :
: We still have the problem that a standard :
           : 16Mhz 030 Falcon can't run the interface with :
: moving graphics. But we scrapped all ideas of :
: doing a low-res version, and instead just release :
: a second version without the movement, but :
: keeping it high-res. It was really a quick :
: lame fix, but it works. :
           : :
: That's it - the endless story got an end! :
