 oO Introduction Oo

It's been about six months since the release of my first music disk,
Hooked on Sound, so, time being ripe, I proudly release S3M Six Pack to the
demo / module scence, and I really hope you enjoy. It's been a bit of work.

While Hooked on Sound (HOS) used Future Crew's MDP as a player, it has no
longer kept up with their S3M format, and so I have chosen to use CappaMod
and a custom menu system instead. Specifically, MDP ignores all S3M panning
commands, which are used to effect in most of these songs. To this end,
Mnementh has graciously developed a music player specifically for this
 project.

The introduction of this much disk was further delayed due to the "not
previously released" rule of Music Contest III. After creating Tim's Space
Guitar, and at the urging of Raptor, my S3M beta tester, I decided to use it
instead of Untitled Rhythm as my MC3 entry, feeling it to have a better
chance of placing well, being a better sounding module. It came 11th out 65.
Next year I shoot for the top.

So, I give you a S3M Six Pack, and hope you find it worth your download.

 oO About the Songs Oo

All of these songs were constructed using Scream Tracker III, along with
an assortment of utilities. Please see the modules themselves for
    additional information.

(Late breaking news: The Immortal Syndicate will be releasing a series of
S3M utilities designed at reducing the amount of work it takes to create
modules in this format. I sure could have used them on this project, but
    oh well...)

  o Butthead Parliament o

Beavis and Butthead take on Parliamet / Funkadellic in this MTVized
version of my unreleased original, Got the Funk. Some might call it
music, others might call it noise, but I call it immature fun.

  o The SnapTech Snapple o

Written for a TrackMo that never was, this `achievement' parodies the
works of other demo musicians while maintaining true to the original
spirit. Why not use it in your own production? It's free!

o La Siesta Fiesta Fatal o

No room for the `e', this Spanish Technotronic gets going from the start
and stays there. Captain Xiticix has been kind enough to code his first
Immortal Syndicate intro, Siesta, using it as the soundtrack. Ask for it
    by name!

  o Anti-Triad o

In the tradition of "Hey Sunny" and "Blue Jim", this module started off
as a MIDI file. Notice the characteristic hard-panning poliphony effect.
While the best is saved till last (in this case, the steel drum solo),
it's probably worth listening to all the patterns in this one as there
    are no "repeats".

  o Vinyl Bong o

Written in tribute of Vinyl and the rest of Mindprobe, whom I greatly
admire, this module features samples, including a nice bongo pattern,
hence the name, from their modules.

  o Tim's Space Guitar o

My finest module to date, according to most of my friends, this is the
first I have felt good enough about to bother entering into the world of
the music competition, in this case the rookie division of Music Contest
III (MC3). It placed 11th out of 65, which to me seems fair, considering
the level of the competition. Currently circulating anonymously as
o-39244 due to MC3 anonymity requirements.

Quoting ABBA, "Thank you for the music...", all those who entered. Also
thanks to the organization for hosting the event, and judges for their
    much appreciated comments.

 oO Technical Information Oo

These modules were created created using ScreamTracker 3.21 and various
other utilities. Throughout development, headphone listening was used
exclusively for feedback, so as to not bring down the wrath of my
    dorm-mates.

    The chain (simplified) went:

Scream Tracker 3.21 or CappaMod 2.22
     -> Gravis Ultrasound
-> MIDIMan Fineline Mixer (1/4 volume output)
-> Sennheiser HD560 Headphones (Diffuse Field Equilized)
     -> My auditory receptive system.

-> Custom Radio Shed OFC Cables used throughout (wow!).

Due to a whole bunch of science which I won't attempt to get into here,
these songs will sound a bit or a whole bunch on different sytems.

If you think things don't sound quite as they should, experiment with
various variables. One of the biggest and least expensive to alter
is simple speaker placement. Give it a whirl.

The replay routines used for this music disk are compatible with the
Advanced Gravis UltraSound series of cards (Best Sound Quality) and
the Creative Labs SoundBlaster series of cards (Varying Degrees of
Quality). If your sound card is not supported directly, do not despair.
USE YOUR FAVOURITE S3M MODULE PLAYER! I recommend Capacala's CapaMod.

(Late breaking news: Pascal's Cubic Player really kicks. It combines
state-of-the-scene module visualization with good sound quality and
great features / compatibility. Try it - you'll love the displays.)

Remember, these are simple S3M modules with 8-bit samples, so don't
expect miracles. Using tools like Stax Lambda Pro Signature / Reference
headphones will most likely just reveal flaws in the audio chain,
including the source material, and we wouldn't want that, would we?

If this upsets you, then you can always send the offending hardware to
us, post paid please. (All donations are greatfully accepted.)
