If there's no MS2003 then MS has been dead for a year next easter. TG has been dead longer than that. Before making any silly decisions, atleast wait and hear what ryg and the gang are planning.

Ok, this is by no means an official standpoint (!), but maybe this clears a few things up:

We had a certain "tension" within the main organizing team since years. There always were personal differences between the most important MS orgas that seemed almost unresolvable, but in the last years we all tried to forget that just for a few days because there were more important things: MS and what it meant to the scene and to us.

Sadly a few things happened during the last few months which make it impossible for a few of the main orgas to ever work with the other few again.

Of course it would be possible to hold a demo party with only the one or the other half, but it definitely won't be an MS anymore. Our "success" was largely due to the fact that we were an experienced team of dedicated demosceners, everyone with his own skills in his department and a strong commitment to what he's doing at the party.

Whatever half of the main orgas "we" would have to "cut off", this definitely won't be the case anymore.

Thus the decision to let MS die. Even if there would be a party at Fallingbostel next easter, it wouldn't be an MS, and it's better to have NO party than one that carries an old name but sucks. Look at Razor/S!P and the likes, you all here know that *g*

Anyway, now to the "good" news:

Letting MS die was no easy decision. In fact, there's no single person which is happy about that (except maybe some of our parents :), we all are seriously hurt and we also know what hole we're tearing into the scene by stopping to hold one of the most important demo parties ever. And most of us definitiely want to go to a party next easter or even organize one.

For this reason, various organizers of various german scene parties are sitting together (ok, on IRC :) at this very moment, planning to hold a party somewhere else in Germany next easter.

This will of course also be no MS, but all of the people involved are former orgas of MS or other parties, all of them knowing what MS meant: Sceners only, really multiplatform, noncommercial, committed orgas, boozing meadow for hjb/mfx, biiiig screen and PA and hopefully the general mood and the people.

There's nothing actual to tell about yet, but an announcement will be made as soon as we've got evidence that the plan will work.

In the meantime, go to altparty/TUM/etc and have fun, ok? The scene will definitely not die.

i hope something turns up.. MS has been fucking *great* those times i attended, but i think i'll settle for something less big.. if you guys can organize something during easter as an alternative, i think a lot of people will show up. they won't be bothered by the size of a hall or a big screen.. it'll be cool.

Let's have a party at Jämijärvi, Finland! It's like a Finnish Fallingbostel what is comes to enviroment :) And yeah, this is the craziest out-of-blue idea what has ever come into my mind, but organizing such a party in a little place like Jämijärvi can't be that hard... Only 75 km away from Tampere!

I know I might get stoned (no, not that way :) for saying this; but there is actually a party called The Gathering which has shifted it's interrest back to the demoscene. I know this because I'm one of the main organizers of the party and has been for quite some years now. I know, most of you feel that it's a big fucking commercial suckergamerparty, but things have -actually- changed. I'm not hoping for much by saying this, but TG is *NO* The Party - we are better. Please don't compare us to TP. Actually we are aiming for the model that Assembly set up. Cheaper tickets for sceners, own VIP-area, compos for Amiga/C64 aswell as PC and all that stuff.

If you think I'm a fucko for trying to "advertise" TG here and now, but that's just the way it is. I've fought for TG for many years and when things actually start to turn around for us, it's important to atleast have SOME backing from the scene. I realise that most of our visitors will be coming from Sweden, Denmark and Finland, but you continental europeans are also welcome, even though it looks like a very cool geman party is taking form. :)

Just a couple of cents from a norwegian scener..

as kb already said, we are all working as fast as possible to feed you with further information about the upcoming event....no one wants to be at home while eastern! so don´t worry :)

bhead: now it doesn't say much if you claim that TG is better than TP! ;-) Hell, my Nephew's birthdayparty is more fun than that!... ..and it's about equally "scene-like"! ;-)
the most important thing is that some big, totally scene-oriented party happens, somewhere accessible in mainland europe, and many many sceners turn up. because we need it (as a scene) - one premier event where you can be sure a large amount of the world scene will be at.
i dont care if its in germany, holland, france, somewhere else in europe, whatever.. just if all the people go.

hmm, yeh, holland would be a nice alternative, never been to a dutch party before :-D
gloom: I had actually planned on atleast visiting the gathering this year (for a day or so). If the planned german party should fail for some reason (or be one completely other dates for some reason), I'll be there longer.
Anyway, for everyone else I just want to say that gloom IS actually right about The Gathering doing more (and more) for sceners. Atleast the last couple of years we've all gotten a lot of info and promises about cheaper tickets ++ starting a few mothns before. I've chosen Mekka, since I found more people would come there and it was generally a good party after all, but the Gathering is actually not as bad an alternative as it may seem.

With that said, I hope you mekka organizers know that I had already planned the mekka trip, argh :)

Well... TG isn't Mekka, and it will probably never be Mekka (ie. a pure sceneparty) either. But I'm quite confident that most of the sceners that were at last TG came back with a good feeling -- it _is_ really on the way up from what it was a few years ago.

But of course, the only thing that can make a party a good sceneparty (after the organizers have done their best, of course) are sceners. We need even more of you! ;-)

gloom, if you want the gathering to come alive again just allow drinking inside the hall, otherwise it will never be close to mecka. i got fucking thrown out at the last gathering :P

Is it possible to organize a new party at the same location (heidmarkhalle / fallingbostel)? there will be no mekka&symposium again, i know. but the location is cool, and eastern is cool. one part of the old orga-team (not the 'evil' one, just kidding) could make a new party at this time, at this location. is this possible, or not`? (or just a stupid idea)
