Timbaland's other ringtones

category: general [glöplog]

There are 2 VERY familiar melodies in ringtones "by Timbaland" (besides Acid Jazz...). I'm pretty sure I've heard those before in some amiga demo. I just can't remember... Those melodies have been haunting me for few days now!

The ones I mean are "After Hours" and "The Showdown".

The Showdown reminds me of CNCD's Closer, but it could be a coincidence..

Not the point here.

These songs could have been in quite old demos. I was active in demoscene over 10 years ago(C64 mainly). Been checking what's going in demoscene every now and then.

Anyway, it was not in CNCD's demo. Had to check that immediately. :)

'could have been', just cos they sound like terribly bad modules with 4 bit samples and tracked by a noob :P 'quite old demos' had way better music, mate :)

(sorry for reposting)

Well... many did and many didn't. Those are just clips. If you take short clip from some Jesper Kyd song, that can "sound like crap" too. ;-)

Even the bloody whackness and utter difference of all the other ringtones to the ripped "Block Party" is quite an indicator that this creep has taken advantage from a guy who know how to do melodic music.
Timbaland's "music" (better say rhythms) base mainly on drumsets ( african influenced ) and a lot of percussions.
The chords he did in the not-ripped-ringtones might sound so familiar because they have been written down a thousand times by thousand musicians/composers for they are very easy to do.
Say the odds that you come across such a combination of notes by just trying are very high.
Bottom line: his self made stuff is [cite M.Garibaldi Bab5] ...the greatest load o' horse hockey I've ever heard [/cite M. Garibaldi Bab5]

For me, it's hard to believe he purposely made those other tones sound like old Amiga Mods (->)with the tools he has available.
True, he has SID station(sound clearly recognizable also in "The Gateway") too, but he used Tempest's original Amiga song in that ring tone.
Just a coincidence few other tones sound like old Amiga songs too(at least to me)? ;-)

anesthetic:
ringtone revenue over last year is over $6Bn,
iTunes revenue (over it's entire lifetime) is around $2Bn.
That's why people give a shit about ringtones.

I'm dumb: Bn = e6 or e9?
(*10^6 or *10^9)

The Gateway doesn't sound SIDish enough to me, but Block Party is GRG's Acid Jazz for sure.

Timbaland rip sightings are becoming a bit like Elvis sightings. At least in this thread...
A billion is 10^9.

Unless you're English, where a billion is a million million; 10^12
