What happened to Groo?
added on the 2007-08-26 16:14:14 by okkie okkie
He was found dead at home a few days after he went snowboarding with some friends. At least that's what's written in the german article.

Oh wait, Groo / Essence != Groo / CNCD.

Weird story still..

Yeah, he was the groo from well-known Groo+Rufferto duo, made a lot of nice gfx for Amiga demos.

skateboarding actually.
as far as tomcat told the story, he had a nasty fall so he got chestpains and went home to sleep it off. turns out one of his ribs somehow punctured some organ and he never woke up. (details are hazy.)

... of course. Sorry to make humour out of it. I didn't know crest exept for some of his posts here, I read his old article about "life" and I can perfectly understand his feelings... I can also say I think about suicide from time to times because of the very same reasons... well, I'm ok this time. I think it's easy to get it wrong about the way society can turn an individualist shitbag... sometimes a few music and books can repair you in some way, showing another images of the society... well fuck.

We in Affinity just found out this news. Crest was a valued member, and contributer to Affinity. We are all shocked about what he did. We all send out condolences to all of his Family and friends. Micheal will be remembered in our group for a long time.
We are all very sorry for the loss, and we are sad that it happened. We tried to cheer him up as much as we could, but (ultimately) to no avail.
It seems like that there has been a few suicides recently, and that is really sad, as there shouldn't be any reason to do it. There is always an alternative.
We in Affinity, will work on a tribute in one way or the other, so everyone can show their respects.

Crest, Rest in Piece.

krabob: call Bourdieu to the rescue!
Quote:

about the scener who died in the forest, i can step in and post a bit.

i lost contact with weasel/amour on 12/10/1999, thats the last time i saw him. i moved to canada, came back, put his phonenumber in, meant to call him since 2001, then in 2002 i find out, on the street, by a foaf, that the funeral had been, that he had before that gone to amsterdam alone, then came back and died in a forest. people presumed he had gone there to smoke, but no data exists as to what else he did there, or why. he had an affinity of being in the forests for a smoke, and i guess it was simply too cold and he fell asleep and died.
theres people who are still sad about it, including me (he was my best friend).

regards crest, i do seem to remember being in touch with him. but im familiar with this form of unbalanced thinking ... dont stick to it.

Just recently heard about it. It came as quite a shock to me, since I've talked a lot to Crest and even was kinda happy to see him joining demoparties again, after he announced that he never want to come back to a party, or something like that.

With now knowing that Crest decided to die, it's really really eerie and sad to look at the probably last photo taken of him: http://tinyurl.com/3bglp2

It tells a thousand words.

RIP Crest.

I'm sad to hear this. Crest was one of the first people I met personally in the scene.. I think his name will stay around for a long time with us..

Alas I have a long list of deceased sceners. However, I know of none who died in a forest. Who was that and when?

Ah, just read back. Weasel of Amour. Anything to know about him? What did he do on the scene, etc?
