Actually it's for casual games - win/mac. I used it on a very small project last year. I can highly recommend it, it's very intuitive and flexible.

Seriously though, Unity is not primarily targeted at making demos (mostly small to mid-sized games), but of course demos can be made with it. I think it could be a good tool because of fast turnaround time for tweaking stuff. At some point some of our users have done a small speed-demo compo (4 hours for a demo), but I can't find the results right now. But the participants were mostly Americans, so insert random statement about demos in US and A here...
