What demotune to use for ringtone?

category: general [glöplog]
Yep, I got a Siemens M55 and have plento of space to waste on a 8bit 16khz mono WAV-file to use as a ringtone. :) So - which should I use? I'm currently leaning HARD towards "Onward Ride" by Jugi.

Just to try, is there any place to download/transform any demotunes into polyphonic (dunno if it's written this way) tunes? I don't even know if it's possible or a stupid question :P

Yes Boo2! Infact, the main part of that track even sounds like a traditional mobile phone ringtone.

shash: since most demosoundtracks are either tracked or mp3/ogg; no. polyphonic ringtones are more or less just midi-tunes played through a bad general midi-synth. :)

sid2mid does decent job with most of the c-64 tunes... and then you can use the tune as a ringtone in your polyphonic phone. i tried also the same with pc songs with xm2mid but failed miserably - in any case sid music fits better in beepy mobile phones. :)

My phone doesn't do polyphonic, it does some sort of odd music format that I have to look up (I have the info...) at which time I'm converting Echo's Deep Lard 7, because that has meaning for me personally.

Sid/YM: I'd go for Zamzara High Score, That's the Way It Is, Think Twice, Stationary Ark/anything from Synth Sample, Stranglehold, or Akira Vs SanGoKu (latter part), ingame from Beyond Shadowfire...

Melwyn's correct on sid2mid, but you still need to fix it afterward or it will still sound like carp. This is a good solution for anyone with musical talent, but NOT a good one for people like me.

boo2, heh. I think I'd rather have the chippy (Game over?) from Boooo, or the other 2 tunes, or TDK's Main Theme 2... tho, yeah, Melon tunes have an unusually high "That would fscking rock as a ringtone" factor...
"Hamster hamster where will you run to get away from the dog?"

"I know a place where I can go."
and then, all of a sudden, the thread was ruined.

I got 2nd Reality on my old monophonic Nokia 8310. One day i'll make a MIDI polyphonic version of it and upload to my new polyphonic 6610... do any of you know if such a version (midi version of 2nd Reality soundtrack) already exists?

gloom:

the classic demotunes are mostly mod/xm, so yes.

teo: eh, yeah? didn't i say that already? tracked = mod/xm/s3m and so forth. midi played through a gm synth isn't sample-based and would therefore sound like shite. :)
