And why would any of this matter?

Do you need to make movies to watch movies?

yes, it's not necessary to make demos to watch&rate them... - i would rather wonder why to watch demos if you think over 70% of em sucks..

snag-a-city: yes, I have. They were workstation demos for which I no longer have source/binaries/screen shots, or I would add them to pouet :).

good question :)

I hope the existence of this thread doesn't mean that someone thinks having made a demo, or anything at all, would justify spengler's particular brand of downvoting.

Look on the bright side, at least Spengler's relatively quiet. Just imagine what it might be like if he were as verbose as Optimus...
They are probably lucky. I should have a life and a girlfriend, and just spend a small part of my free time for watching and bashing demos on pouet without needing to do any. It's the perfect thing to do :P But the question is: Does Spengler or Sokoban have a life? :)

For god's sake Optimus, CHEER UP! Anyway, are Spengler and Sokoban particularly guilty of downvoting unfairly? I haven't noticed...

Let's all start crying because Spengler downvotes our demos!

Waaaaa... oh wait, I haven't made any demos.

dipswitch, or smart enough not to waste any time on analyzing some random individual's voting policy on this site.

ok..
BEFORE this thread/discussion ends up with everyone using the well-known sacred mantras of demoscene ("YU0 SUXX0R!"), let me state what's my problem with certain voters on pouet.

Downvoting a prod is ok, I guess, after all we can't force someone to like, or just be neutral to a prod. Everyone has prods he dislikes. Hey, I'm even fair with people who don't like ANY of the prods.

But what really pisses me off is downvoting a prod without clearing up WHY you do it. (Let's skip the case when someone downvotes a prod just because everyone else voted it up...) Yes, I DO mean comments like "This is the biggest piece of shit I've ever seen". I mean, how do you expect someone to do better, or just fix something wrong, if he has no idea WHAT'S wrong? I mean, is it REALLY that hard to enter something like "didn't like the music, sorry", or "ugly textures"? Let's just TRY to be "stern but fair" ((c) plek), okay?

People can vote as they like to, but they shouldn't
- vote up their own stuff
- vote down, just because it "it shouldn't have won"
- vote down, because it has a bug or doesn't run on their setup (correctly)
- vote for something they haven't even seen
- hide behind a fake-account for down-thumbing purposes only

I'm not sure. I mean, if I like it, why not? Does it matter? I'm not hurting myself with it :) And thumbing down my own prod is kinda automatical if I don't like it

- vote down, just because it "it shouldn't have won"
Agreed, I guess it's some kinda revenge for some people... :)

Also agreed, but I do have to admit I get pissed when a demo reboots/locks up/etc, however if I know my system sucks, then a demo is not to be blamed.

They might have tried making a demo. Dozens of times.

Spengler gave a thumb up here, so stop bothering him okay? :)

It is bad when they write "this is shit" but whats worse is when they write stuff like this:

"you suck, big time"

"fuckings to fearmoths"

"FUCK YOU !"

This really hurt our feelings. :(
