AtariXL vs C64

category: general [glöplog]
They both suck ass, and they both have creative people doing unbelievably cool stuff on them.

@Oswald....
I wonder if you have seen any of the 3D demos on the A8. At the resolution of around 80x60 you have real 16 brightness steps in one colour. Not to mention how much faster all 3D is on the A8 (somewhere between 2 and 3 times)
With the same tricks, as used in the rush demo, you can gain also 16 colours PLUS fading colour FX inside the colour registers at higher resolutions.

I also wondering, whether you sometimes will recognize that the ATARI graphis are not screenbased and the colours in standard mode are changeable colour registers.... or not ...

Emkay, congratulations! Atari is now officially better than C64!

Here's your prize:

Is it some sort of a crosseyes 3D image? If I stare into it, will I see an animation of ecco the dolphin?

elsewhere pretty much summed it up. PC wins!

STOP THIS TOPIC...
Linde is right! PC wins... please note the lower right corner. An Atari is no PC at all! ;)

Haha, nice find vscd :). I always owned breadboxes and I don't think they mentioned 'personal computer'.

Reality is...
* Atari has hardware advantages
* Commodore still kicks Atari's ass

Atari can kick Commodore's ass too, if only Commodore sceners start making demos on Atari platform ;)

Big fish eat little fish, even little fish is faster and more colorful ;)

What to say... the last posts show why such threads never end.
The "dot" picture show how C64 guys may recognizer the world: Just give them some weird coloured paintings and they are happy. ;-)

And... Wasn't it the Demoscene always blaming the "PC" ;-) ?

Alike...
One of the problems on the ATARI8 Scene is the minimalistic manner there. People always try to do minimalistic stuff like doing some simple 8-bit data polling interface where the DMA easily could be used at 16 bit width.
Or programming the pokey of that people like to hear more "chippy" tunes instead of turning more into "ambient" music.
And so on...

I am seriously beginning to think that some people posting on this thread are lamers.

Instead of fighting the people should start using the other machine. In the past it could be observed that C64 people became interested in the Atari XE and created some very nice productions (Cosine i.e.). That's of course other way around. I would love to create C64 prods in the future. It only depends on the people I meet at parties. And surely I would not work with arrogant "Platform-Faschisten" ... but with talented people who are sharing the same oldskool as I do.

The war is not over yet? Come to the Forever 8bit Party in Trencín/SK and you can see true 8bit demscene spirit. And there is no crying and whining "YYY is better than XXX".

I bought my Atari 800XL exactly 22 years ago :D

and me started c64 coding two days ago converting some of my intros... but i miss several things from Atari... but love some things which I found on the breadbin... ;)

I would really love to see c64 sceners getting touch on the Atari - Oswald...still waiting... ;)

but maybe the c64 sceners are spending more time counting cycles in timer interrupts and in coding stable rasters... just kidding... ;)
Vscd, Heaven and friends: that's the way to go!
