Gamepark GP2X WIZ

category: general [glöplog]
Today I have buyed GPH F100 and this will I buy for XMAS :D
Shit.
Now I'm not so sure if I want a pandora.
This one is smaller and cheaper, and probably better sized to use as a PDA. Pandora has the advantage of having a bigger screen and battery life which is great to watch movies on the go. Also, I feel this one will have a bigger acceptance in the market, more support, etc. If it was the size of a Gameboy Micro I would buy it for sure.

What is this thing capable of in terms of 3D acceleration?

I love how the SDK looks like Photoshop.

"SOD - Snake on Dope"... those crazy Koreans.

Looks sweet, especially at that small scale. It's not a lot bigger than a GBA micro, actually.
"Cpu arm9 533mhz 3d accelerator"

I wonder what it is, maybe some polux like integrated chip (since it's a korean product too).

That could be an interesting console to code on from gamepark for a change. I'll be sure to watch that one for detailed specs.

It is small compare to earphones...
I am still going for the Pandora. But maybe I'll buy one of these later too..

Looks like a good demoplatform, so I will probably buy one too.
I hope that the TV Out cable for my GP2X works also with this new model.

tinctu: If you have a GP2X, then you should take a look to the demo that I did for that console.

damn, seems that GPH were in a hurry! the pollux SoC is quite inferior to the Pandora's OMAP, though. there is 3D acceleration and a 533 MHz CPU. but the core is ARM9 (single core), while the OMAP has a Cortex A8, OGL/ES support, and a DSP to boot, and baked with a state-of-the-art process (65 nm or better).

but it looks like this thing is small, and with a decent D-PAD this time! i wonder what the battery life is like. 2000mAh doesn't sound like much but it could be the Pollux and LCD are efficient..

compatibility: some of the the built-in games i recognise as GP2X titles. i guess they must be the original GP2X titles and not ports. i know GPH doesn't talk a hell of a lot with european developers..

anyway, we're talking good SNES/NeoGeo emulation here. PS1 emulation might still be impossible, don't know. might be nice to make demos on this baby especially seeing it's "compatible".

btw, i hope they didn't hook the cpu up to a 16 bit bus again..

I will buy WIZ first.Than I will wait - when PANDORA will be with real case and MK1 motherboard /not dev/ and will have good price I will buy PANDORA too.
Well DSP is awesome for music - realtime softsynth like on ACE Tracker on FALCON 030 (68030+MOTOROLA 56K DSP) so PANDORA will be real demo beast.I mean 3D graphics plus DSP music or graphics... :D

But WIZ has cute desing as GAMEBOY micro.Good CPU and 3D OpenGL and FLASH...
So It will be beast too!!!
@ham: AWESOME DEMO!!! THNX!!! YOU ARE CODER???
@tinctu: Thanks. I did everything except the music, that was made by JosSs.
By the way, if you like my demo, where is your thumb? ;)

Looks cool. More flash, but less RAM than the Pandora. I like the pandora better... Better resolution, 3D-Accelerator, connectors etc...

did some reading on the wiz.. the pollux is not highly compatible. code needs to be compiled anew. in some cases the games use interpreters like fenix, so only the interpreter needs to be ported. and GPH actually did contact european developers (wow!). there's alot of fuss about the right D-PAD. but it seems it's not the final design, so might just change back to separate buttons again (let's hope so!).

in any case it's much more portable than, and at least twice as powerful as the GP2X. and cheaper. the OLED screen sounds sweet too.
