Incentives!

category: general [glöplog]

People respond to them. It's science! (Okay. Economics may not be regarded as the purest of disciplines, but bear with me here).

Obviously, this also applies to demoparties. Discuss.

*foghorn sound*
Here you are: I wouldn't have made my 4k and learned what I've learnt if it wasn't for incentives.

Tataaa.
Incentives are different depending on the individual, or group.

(Why use 6 pages now when you can use them for blathering on later about something far less important or interesting?)
bbs topics! people respond to them. it's internet! (okay. bandwidth may not be regarded as the purest of bits, but download more here.)

obviously, this also applies to europe. discuss.

.. I once thought about having a sort of competition/selection, where people could win one year fulltime demoscening.
Imagine having a team of 5 people each year, sponsored by the demoscene, with the promise to release 4 (?) demos during that year. The team could be assembled by nominating yourself and have a central voting system. Something-ish.

If every scener would donate a small amount of money each year or perhaps sponsored by third parties, this could finance a couple of demosceners to spend 1 year working on demos.

As silly as it may sound, still i wonder if it could work. Ofcourse, there're many arguments not to do it, but the idea still fascinates me.

sander: but then it should be a 24h live show, imho, like "big scene brother" or smth ;) if I have to pay for it, i want to be able to follow progress 24h/day. :)

If I knew about the demobox before and got one, I would have finished a new PC accelerated demo and don't need to buy a new PC now :P

Replace "demoscene" by "Blender Foundation" and "4 demos" by "1 short film" and here you go.
