Gamepark GP2X WIZ

category: general [glöplog]
it seems like a 16 bit databus again. but it is DDR, so twice as fast as the original GP2X bus.

Nice! my old GP2X is about to fall part! this is great. does anyone know if its backwards compatible with the old one?

probably not.. games developed with "fenix" will work. some that are dynamically linked might work (primarily SDL). the stuff done with static libs and/or hardware specific stuff such as rlyeh's minilib i fear is not gonna work.

on the gp32x board people are discussing the differences in the hardware register map.

@tinctu: Thanks. I did everything except the music, that was made by JosSs.
By the way, if you like my demo, where is your thumb? ;)

Just thumbed :D.One more time nice demo!
It was @Ham...
Concerning 3D:
If it supports OpenGL ES 1.1 it actually has OpenGL 1.5 level functions with some nice extensions. Performance ~1.33 MPoly/s.
Pandora uses OpenGL ES 2.0 and thus supports programmable shaders, ~10 MPoly/s.

Ham contact me... If you want some gfx,3d,xm tunes for production...
acctuaalll siiizzze :D
BB Image
compatibility: binary compatible i would highly doubt so, but most probably source compatible for anything not too fancy (using either SDL or linux device (dev/) memory mapping)

...but anyway as a devving point of view, the pandora looks like a better successor for the gp2x.

I'm still going for the pandora. This thing has a 2.something jack instead of the more standard 3.5mm, and no wireless of any kind (may be useful).

I will buy WIZ for sure...
@XERNOBYL:

"Some of you may know GPH and me are currently at the IFA exhibition in Berlin.
We had quite some conversations during the last days - and I'm really happy to announce the following:

The 2nd DPad of the Wiz will be replaced with 4 proper buttons! AND the 2.5mm headphone jack will be replaced with a 3.5mm one.

So the only flaws I could see with this system will be fixed!
On the downside it means that the release of the Wiz will be delayed for 30 days (so it will be shipped in November), but I think that's best."

I will buy WIZ first than latter PANDORA too :D...
Pandora pandorino. Pandora pandoreli. Tha faw to pasteli.

Evildragon's news is certainly good! looks like the Wiz might become the perfect hand-held console: fast, cheap, small, comfortable, and open.

the OLED durability still bugs me, though. for sure, most of us won't use it more than a few hours per week. but hardcore users get a worn out screen after a year or two. OLED seems to be prone to effects known from ancient CRT's but with faster rate of degradation. i'm talking phosphor burn and unbalanced components (the screen becoming greener).

Hail to the king, babe.

but, already have an F200 and still not taken the time to code for :( ...
this is basically a sweet super-slim super-powerered gp2x , and quite cheap !
... but the pandora has more potential even if its more expensive... 800*480, wifi, firefox, querty and analog pads... not the same use.
@earx:
Hello Earx.
Can be replaced OLED after broken to samesize LCD?
I mean some kind of HWmod???
And maybe it will be not so bad...
Anyways WIZ will be:

- GP2X WIZ demoplatform
- FLASH demplatform
- EMULATORS (GBA,MS-DOS,ATARI,ST,AMIGA,C64,ZX,CPC...) demo player

:D thats good or not???

@earx:
Heeh maybe We can buy cheap LCDminiTVs
and play games ,demos on it via TV cable.And original OLED will be just for testing our demos :D...

OLED has better colors than LCD

I mean BB Image
screen mod sounds tough (harder than the usual d-pad mod). external screen might be possible if the EXT port allows it. this is not the same as the old GP2X, but.. it seems like a standard samsung one. so you can charge via a mobile phone adapter or USB or so.
