They're even tax deductible.

IDEA:
Many of us has something lying around that we don't really use/need/want any more. For example my first GBA. It's not worth anything to us, and it is not worth selling on, for example, eBay. However, maybe someone in the Scene would like it.

So, how about that we, in order to raise money, GIVE this stuff to people who donate? In a way, this is like selling the item, and then giving the money to BP.
In that way, I indirectly donate my old GBA that I don't need to Breakpoint!

Is this an idea which we should explore further?
(Sorry about all the exessive commas)
IKEA:
Buy a Klämrisk trash can for compo prizes!
before you increase the entrance fee i'd like to remind you that eastern-europe sceners already have a headache and ~20% less money in their pockets because of current euro rates (for instance 1 euro on 21.03.08 was 3,54 pln, today it is 4,45, who knows what the rate will be in april 09, maybe even 5 pln). it can sound insane, but only lowering/keeping entrance fee at the same level can attract more people these days (for those not in euro zone it probably will be an increase anyway). as a multiple bp/mekka/dozens of other parties visitor i can say that there are many things which are unnecessary for a successful scene event (full lan, wifi, streaming, 1 computer per visitor attitude, city bus shuttle). we can have great fun without those high-end and costly extras. real party is outside, so all we need is a good weather and floor to sleep :).

navis: The point is that we can only have a limited number of different sponsor levels, and as we are in talks with one or another sponsor in higher ranges, we need to keep the minium. IOW, if we "sell out", the hopefully upcoming bigger sponsors would be pissed.

But: The 1.5k can be splitted in 1k cash and 500 Euro in hardware compo prices. To discuss details, contact me anytime at scamp@untergrund.net.

And, there are the sponsor tickets, of course, as ryg pointed out.

hakonwpz: We are very well aware of that, no need to worry. That's the main point why we are hoping from support from those who can afford it, while still making sure those with low income are able to attend. I don't want a wealthy-sceners-only-Breakpoint.

GRAGA: Actually directly donating used hardware that may be useful or of a symbolic value for sceners in a given competition. This is especially the case for oldschool competitions I guess.

fair enough, I'll see how it goes tomorrow morning. That damn euro is killing us too here in GB, almost 1 pound = 1 euro :-(

It's official : If you buy a Breakpoint Sponsor Ticket (€250+) you get FREE entry to Sundown 2009

I encourage other parties to consider doing something similar! :)

perhaps someone can make a good slashdot post about this? (dunno if it'll be accepted but it might be worth trying to get some publicity?)

I think spending little money via scene.org sponsorship is the most reasonble thing to do. Use your paypal account and spend whatever you can afford!!

I'd just like to point out that the Scene.org sponsorship is not _just_ the money coming in from smaller donations. Scene.org will sponsor a good amount from it's own budget, but the details aren't finalized yet so we'd rather just not be too specific at this point.

I submitted the story to slashdot...we'll see if they post. I have doubts since its so US-centric but thought it was worth a shot.
