Brokepoint - Breakpoint 2009 is in danger and needs YOUR support

category: general [glöplog]
gloom: we had DTV stream Function in 2006 and, ironically, scamp was watching and telling me how awesome the party looked like and then he never showed up in the following years :D

I don't quite get the resistance against us 'stream'-people.
The Breakpoint demo compo is one of, or even perhaps THE, demoevents of the year. Of course people want to be able to watch that!
Compare this to a sporting event, sure being on site with other fans is probably the best experience, but people watching it on TV from home are also adding to the audience!

BP demo compo watched by 500 on site + 1000 on stream >>> BP demo compo watched by 500 on site.

What about this Idea: You can spend money for getting greeted in the next Debris 2 - Demo or get your face into Lifeforce2/ASD ;) That's all a fan can dream off.

20 Euro for your name in a small scroller, 80 Euro for 3D-Wall (180 with own texture) or even get bumped fully in actual size for 5000 Euro in the next cocoon-trilogy. 300 Euro for acting in Hyperscheisse - The real Shit comes with economycrisis. And your face as GFX-Entry --> worthless!

I would support this. You can get announced for 4 Euro in a 256 Byte Basic-Intro on my C64. Book me today.

I brought a Backstreet Boys poster to The Party 98, it was awesome (and a really good meeting spot!)

Could you please stop nagging about the stream? There's no way we could do one with the resources we got. Crying about being unable to watch the party online won't change a thing.

At the least, I can do an live audio podcast of the competitions.

"On the screen now is a sphere and it's morphing into a cube! It looks all sticky!"

mbb: How about being a bit more positive? Using phrases as "nagging" or "crying" doesn't really send the best message. :) All people are doing are expressing wishes -- not really a surprising reaction when they are told that their favourite demoparty is downsizing. When one of the first responses is "Oh shit, you'll still stream the compos right?!" then that is probably something to think about.

if you really want to see the compos live:
come to BP

if you can/want not attend:
p(r)ay that there will be enough money for a stream

simple as that

gloom: Well I got your point three pages ago. Repeating it over and over, well knowing that the organizer can't change anything about it, is what I call nagging and crying. I am totaly aware, that the stream is an awesome feature and many people will miss it but what is that gonig to change?

mbb: What you call "repeating" I call "responding to replies".

1000 people you say.
Make it a (pre)pay-per-view service.
A bad idea under normal circumstances. But with a BP in crisis....

i understand that sceners would prefer to make things the best way or just cancel them, yet it would be quite easy & cheap to use a private camcorder and stream to free services like ustream.tv or blog-video.tv, or better demoscene.tv if possible :)

or make stream viewers pay a little fee : i'm sure most won't complain at all! it would be quite retrograde to go without the web nowadays.

also maybe you could whore the demoscene in a 'good' way : why not a corporate compo, for example a silverlight compo sponsorized by microsoft, the prods could be used by microsoft to promote this flash alternative and curious sceners could take this compo as a serious challenge to make something appealing within a 'limited' platform and to conquer new grounds, or is it too blasphemous for most sceners ?

aftu: like the xbox 360 compo @ asm07?
added on the 2009-02-04 15:04:46 by stijn stijn
Well if it brings in more money for a good cause,.
I'm more than willing to make a silverlight-animation.

why not a corporate compo

because that's up to the corporations, not the party organizers.

Or the silverlight compo at Asm'08? Weren't there like one entry or something.

aftu: If it's easy and cheap, please come to Breakpoint 2009 and do it for free. Organize everything needed, the streaming servers with DTV, make sure you arrive on Wednesday to do the cabling.

To those suggesting a pay-per-view system: Please code one, test it, put it online, and we'll use it.

Seriously, what part of "we don't have any organizer resources left because all organizers we have are 100% used to get the party going AT ALL" do you guys not understand?

You are right now pissing off quite a few organizers who try to get this thing done, paying money out of their own pocket. If your goal is not to have a Breakpoint at all, please continue what you do right now.

rare: if the cash pool reaches 60k, perhaps they can get a live stream with audio commentary and closed captioning by SoLo2 so that both the visually and hearing impaired (and the retarded) will know exactly what's going on at all times :T
