SavageCharts 4

category: general [glöplog]
lamb: Yes, Biter has had always much votes in the past. And I always voted for every issue and also asked other sceners and my teammates to support it... People which like to vote will do it :) Agreed that instead of discussions people should vote ;) But talking about getting things better should always be possible...

stijn: Yep, a cleaned up voting form could help to get more people active as people get to lazy these days...

Dudes, the fact that the vote http page has LOTSA ranks to fill does not justify you (and the other ppl out there). Simply - you do not want to "waste" a couple of minutes to pass thru the ... mess. Yes, cause even if Savage Charts fellows wanted to be more omnivalent and have as much charts as possible they made an error - the result is an unfriendly page.

A good idea maybe would be to get rid of some ranks, decrease tje number of places from 5 to 3 for exemple and so on. It would be easier to fill and for the user to think what to fill.

I am not against SC at all. In fact it could bereally cool to still have this production. Charts about Amiga, PC, and maybe C64 scene, and "other platform", if there would not be enough # of votes for, for example, Atari XL platform.. The point is not to include ALL the competition ideas, but the most important and basic such as demo, music, chip tune, music disc maybe, cracktro (for all the latforms together), gfx artist, musician, and somekinda platform's "coupe de coeur" (why not?).

You should not, in my opinion propose the same number and kind of ranks for every plateform.

You should maybe consider quiting disk mag editor or so on. Ppl prefer to talk on the party, rather than read at home how was it...

You got my idea. Try to make a Savage Charts 5 smaller, with less competitions. It would be nice to have a glance at it even for ~5 minutes listening to a tiny chip tune. It is not about the quantity, it can be tiny, but with nice content.

But still the question is: will the ppl from c64, amiga, atari, pc and etc. vote giving a small 5' per voting?

Photon here, reason for butting in is I'm webadmin for the Showtime page.

We simplified a lot, but I agree with Reed et al: (Actually, I suggested the idea in an email today!) that to get good representation, all you'd need is "best PC coder 1. 2. 3." form in sidebar of any well-visited scene site.

If Pouet or others make it happen, I humbly suggest an open solution where groups that publish mags apply for having a link or form inserted where appropriate.

Part of the scene has ALWAYS been voting for charts, getting upset, and getting the energy to prove everyone wrong or get Popular(tm) or whatever.

If nobody cares enough to vote, or if knowledge is lacking, the solution is to add simple votes to where the voters hang anyway. Let's make it happen!

i know smth better.. let's throw an election whether we want smash/flt or chaos/fr as PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED SCENES!!!! and wait till you see what running mates they come up with!!!
Thank you for all proposal and ideas but on change is too late. People vote already and this has to remain.
And yes, its last issue because I prefer to dedicate my time on different productions. If you all voted before year (according with promises) then probably this would look differently today.
p.s. active people is not lazy - then is not explanation. If you do not vote with laziness (several minutes) then you will not make anything different and this is probably not for you.
Peace :)

lamb and biter: the thing is, both of you seem to focus on my tone of criticism instead of actually thinking about what i'm trying to say. you urge people to vote and complain that they don't, i was trying to give you an idea of why they don't want to vote.

lamb: hitler card? wow, congratulations. seriously tho, i don't know where your statistics come from, but here in the real world the sample is made representative by including people with different ages, different socio-economic positions, etc. in the scene that would mean different ages, different nationalities, different platforms, at the very least. this is impossible to achieve through a selective method because sceners fitting into a certain category don't necessarily want to vote, so the only possible method is more volume. that is, loads of people voting. the way the charts are now i don't see it happening, plus i'll bet the polish bias is still there.

biter: i don't understand the active people vs lazy people remark. active as in actively producing demos? or actively fighting their way through a voting system? if you only want a select group of people to vote, how is that representative?

Reed: I agree with you in many matters and thx, but on change is too late (this became put there two years ago).

And yes, better if people which voted they are on up to date with productions ( it will not be archaic voting then). And I tell tylko that it was not it been possible so very to go out to "laziness". We voted by filling independent files nfo once and wanted people - I voted always (on every party and in every charts) and I never did with this problem :)

the biggest mistake you can make in marketing is to believe you know what others want based on your own taste/preferences.

ps: voted. :)

oh and btw, in my opinion the polish bias is a much much larger problem than the number of votes that trickle in. Reed: you had a lot of valid points there but I can also understand that biter lacks the motivation to make any changes to the system as it is now.

@reed: read something about statistics and you'd know that if you statistically study any specific group (e.g. homeless, wankers, demosceners ;), then just this fission is major over the rest of characteristics, such as age/iq/ses (social-economic status) which in fact does not affect the way people perceive art it could disrupt any results. sorting and subgrouping is 1) technically impossible, 2) will lead to even less votes, 3) well, just silly. this idea is cul-de-sac, sorry! (and yes, hitler card is the way of thinking that ''my arguments are the only reasonable'', ask him if you want! ;)

btw, probably most of you spent even few times more sitting, thinking and writing such leading to nothing discussion. well, it would be better for the matter to spend that time on voting, i suppose. well, keep going then! (naaaaah, you won't - why to vote, ha? it is better to troll around! ;)

Sad to hear that it is the last issue... But never say never ;)
Thanks for your efforts in making this chart Biter and good luck with your further projects...
As I am not sure if my last vote of 2007 is still guilty I voted again, so don`t wonder if you have 2 votes from me :)

s7ing: I thank you, old votes were throwed out (they are out - date). We collected a lot of new votes fortunately :)

while browsing throught the lists of proposed people, next to some i was missing exactly one name: purple motion.
no really, if you guys are aiming for a mixed list of currently active people and people that ever got a name in the scene between 197x till 1996 - no matter if they're still doing things - why is he missing right there? :)

other than this outdated but funny charts-idea, i hope the mag itself will be a nice read.
