Don't you think the pouet design could be better ?

For me, there could be a size limitation of comments, to avoid long comments that are spaming this website. Perhaps people should vote only one time, to avoid thoose who use pouet as a chat room. Other thing, i think the separation between two comments are not very good. Sometimes, i don't know if the comment is over or under the name...

Tell me what you think about the website, and who knows, perhaps one day, the webmaster will take care about theese remarks.

- size limitation of comments
could be handy, but Optimus may get pissed... besides, you always can separate your shit to more posts...

- only vote one at the time
that's working already, you can't vote more than one... if you mean multiple comments, in can be pretty handy, see: bugreports, answers, final versions, etc.

- separation-design between two comments
agreed, designers wanted :)

well, it's not like I have read thru all the other post where people have ideas to changes pouet but I always wanted to be able to search prods by makers. Like if I can't remember which demo an artist's kick ass song was in I could just type his handle and, voila, all his productions would appear.
But, if I think about it it's probably just my bad memory that's the problem.
And honestly, is there anyone prepared to go thru all the database just to prepare such a thing? I don't think so. :)

I think Pouet is fine.

ekoli: just google for the author's name and "site:pouet.net", it will eventually find one of the nfo.php-s :)

wow Gargaj! Why didn't I think about that? ;)

It shouldn't be so hard to extend the search facilities somewhat... at least using the fields that are actually attached to a production... like... "I want all amiga ESC demos that placed 1:st in a demo compo between 1989 and 1993".

Sokoban :
- size limitation of comments : yes, 512 bytes are enough per comment to avoid stupid flooding
- vote one time : it's allready the case, and we need to chat about the prods and explain or answer viewer's questions about our prods, it's democratic way of speech (pouet is not monostep or demoo)
- separation between two comments is good like this. perhaps the name of the user can be write at left because it disapear sometimes at right
regarding 'size limitation of comments': a 'read the rest of this post' approach would be a better solution. Oh, and there are 10^10 things more urgent than this.

maybe not everybody should be able to register here. or better, make the signup process send an email out to a certain adress with a final password or whatever

A skinnable design would please everyone i guess...
Thought I find Pouet.net very nice to read as it is right now.

limit the length of the comments, damn that's absolutely silly.. some ppl write very interesting things here in longs comments.

limit it to 512 bytes ? tss stupid code power of two wanking..

my few wishes (though someone might have said those already at some point and i know some of them won't be accepted or aren't doable, but still i'm giving my opinion) :
- change the thumb-up/thumb-down thing, give stars, it gives a much better graduation between an average prod, a nice prod and a top notch one, we of course all agree it's pointless to give a thumbdown.
- auto-moderation : a bit like what's done on slashdot.org. would be very nice. you just vote for comments, comments that get a negative value aren't displayed. of course it should be a bit more flexible (like, one can select to see all the comments, or just don't display what write some some users).. (it works well for the logos, why wouldn't it work for the comments ?)
- new design ? hmm i like the way pouet is, since 4 years it has kept almost the same look and still looks nice. maybe some minor changes, like reordering the buttons, make pages a bit simpler, but keep it mostly the way it is, never use frames, it still loads very fast on a modem and that what sometimes counts.

Leave Pouet in the state it is!!!

Size-limiting the comments would suck, a load of interesting posts would be cut, and a lot would end up in a load of small pieces. Could be nice though to have a 'read more' button for long posts, to cut out general crap + spam.

A gap between posts would be nice, it would help make the page easier to read.

Changing the design could be good or bad... but seeing as the current one is fine, i don't see any need to change it.

I think having say 5 stars instead of thumb up/down would be a definate bonus, cause it would be better to show you think a prod is seriously great and a classic, not just pretty good.

But lets face it, theres a lot of more urgent stuff, like a backup system (or is that in now?) and a moderation system of some kind, whether its the comment vote type (personally i'm against that, i suspect it would end up as some kind of censorship) or just more moderators

flrnt, I once proposed that slashdot-like moderation system, but only as a joke. These are opinions and voting for the most popular opinions is pretty pointless when there are at least two completely different demotastes. Tools here you can pick your bias yourself are infinitely better. ("You may also like"/"ignore this idiot"/etc)

216: yep, you're right, i also said flexible.. it could maybe only be used for the bbs, or maybe work in a positive way, like ppl could select clever comments and those would be shown first..

zone: "it's democratic way of speech (pouet is not monostep or demoo)"

democratic != free

the web is a place of freedom.
i don't really see why there would be a decision/choice to be taken for a demo. a democratic way would also mean that everyone would have to vote.
democompo voting aims to be democratic.
pouet and the web in a more general manner is a free place.

if you don't like demoo (like you, zone, once wrote in a comment that was lost in the pouet db crash, or wrote several times on some other places iirc) why don't you open your own demo collection ? we at demoo just show and somehow then reward the demos we like as movie critics would rate movies. why would we hide our opinions ?

why would i recommend my non-scene friends to visit demoo if they want to watch some demos ? because i've noticed that the selection usually pleases them, the site looks great, the links work and they won't be annoyed reading all the stupid comments that populate pouet. but still if they want to go further, why don't they browse themselves the scene.org archives, it's sorted by groups and parties, what would we need more ?

in a more general way something i don't like here is the way some ppl see this place and more generally the scene as a definite yes/no decision ring. there are several opinions, and that's what counts. do you always only read one newspaper ? that's why i prefer to say freedom than democracy.

a reproach i could make to pouet is that nowadays the only thing i do is "check the last prods from last week-end" and "check the last comments page seeking comments from people i like reading"

something excellent for pouet could be a list of favorite demos each user could fill and write comments for, and then display those at the beginning of the demo's page.
also something simple, why not order the comments by rating..

several ideas around that concept, a lot to make to renew/refresh the site and make pouet more attractive.

upgrade the users of pouet and leave the code as it is.

you should add an option to not load a logo. because browsing Random prods has you scroll every page every time. thats VERY annoying!
