motivation vs your mother

I found talking to other sceners in person extremely motivating. Also, avoiding being completely burned out by work is another important motivational factor.

Finally, getting back to good advice I've received in person:

The most difficult thing for me is to start to code. Once I've started, it is easy to continue for some hours.

To be able to start and not do anything else at the computer, I try to close the IM system, close the Gmail Notifier and try to avoid visiting any website.

Then, I open the work I'm doing, the ide and all, and I take a look of what I'm doing. Taking that look starts making me want to continue it.

Then, if I don't have it yet, I do a list in paper of the things I would like to do - or I need to finish if it is part of my job. Picking up things from the list and overlining these as I do anything is a really good way to continue focused and helps me a lot to do more than one little thing per day. Also, between one and other thing, I take a time break, but never browsing internet or using IM, or else I have a good chance to lost the focus again.

Finally, if the deadline is very near, and nothing of the above works, I try drinking a Red Bull.

Working with others, receiving feedback and advice helps getting motivated.
