MAiN#4 DEMOPARTY - 2nd to 4th OCTOBER 2009

category: parties [glöplog]
gargaj: Obviously, I disagree. If one compo needs more preparation time, this doesn't justify delaying unrelated compos, especially if these could be used to fill the waiting time - think of the graphic compos. The explanations I've heard were a) overworked compo organizer and b) "the machine that could be used to show a ready-to-run-compo while preparing the next can not be used to show the compo because it is used for encoding the entries of the next compo" (while another machine happily instead is playing demoshows all the time). a) could have been solved by asking one of the various experienced and idling sceners around to instead run the compo, b) could have been solved by better scheduling the use of available hardware.

Obviously delays in itself aren't much of an issue. To me however it's a great loss if a really great democompo is only watched by a fraction of the visitors - I for myself gave up waiting for it at around 3:30 in the night and went to the hotel instead to get some sleep, as I had to get up early.

I know I'm probably spoiled by german partys, where delays of such magnitude are a matter of the past for years already.

Oh, and a hint for everyone ever using the Montpellier airport. DO NOT USE the elevator to the first floor. We got stuck with 4 stinking sceners in it, with the TWO alarm buttons doing exactly nothing, and with incompetent airport personell completely failing at the "how to get people out of an elevator where people inside are running out of air" mission. (We finally got out by using brute force ourselves ;)

scamp: i agree, a second compo machine is needed to process compo team preparation. Other thing : the sun trap us and for next year i plan ro install theater curtains in the place right behind the beamer, closed during daytime to preserve the darkness atmosphere and opened the after the sun fall.

Thanks for advices : make sense for better party.

finally back in germany.
the problem with going to demoparties is - any other party like weddings, birthdays a.s.o. seem sooo boring after experienced such great events.

My wife and i have our 10th wedding day in 2012, i guess we really need a bigscreen there and someone who makes announcements via th e PA.

Next year iam definatly back in Arles with my brother H2O to ensure that all mentioned critical points wont happen again.

Execpt for the Mutant-Mosquitos, im afraid they await us already then.

I think the problem with mosquitos is that we didn't have DDT with us!

finally a party where Rob wasn't Jarig :)

despite of I hate this meme, it would be awesome to see hundreds of "demomakers" dancing on the yard in the light of the hugescreen...

@SCAMP : Toilets, Pro Clean Team, Seperate Compo prepare from Beam, outside actions AGREE totally

@CYBERNOSTRA : Darken is needed also

@ALL : We knew we will make some mistakes, but at the end, people had good fun i hope, we will try to make much things better for all of you, BUT it depends on amount of visitors aswell, as more you sceners ensure to come, as more we can do effords and actions.

Well, I've never been to a demoparty without delays, so it's not an issue to me ;)
For the clean toilets, well... If all the people would flush the toilet and not leave toilet paper everywhere, there would be no need for a "cleaning team".

BTW, a barbecue and a chillout zone are great ideas ! ;)

The only thing that I didn't understand is why demos on NDS, TI or other machines were placed in a wild compo. I would have preferred to compete in the combined demo competition, even though I ranked second with my humble NDS demo ;)

There was DEMO, 4k, 64k Intro ...
Animation 2d , Anim 3d and real wild ( alternative platforms ) so for me NDS is placed total right there !

Ok... So maybe just the name of the competition wasn't clear for me. Maybe I wouldn't complain (and I don't complain that much, don't get me wrong ;)) if it was something like "alternative platforms demo"...

Anyway, I'm repeating myself here, but the party was just awesomely great, so much that there is no point in nitpicking about delays, cold shower (actually a good idea to wake up sceners) and toilets ;)

Looked great via the stream! Thanks for the organizers for the stream! It's sad that i couldn't come. :(

And I'm sorry that i delivered only one semi-bad entry and took your huge prize money away with it. Next year i will do only good entries for fewer parties. :)

Next year I will come, thats a promise.

sink: ça va viendre rapido sur le site
I agree with flure, "wild" is often used to categorize videos entries in other demo parties (on pouet too with a some exceptions).

Also, Popsy guys, when will you add your entry on pouet?
