Not the kind of thing you want the demoscene to be known for..

AMEN!

I don't really see how this relates to anything but the simple fact that at computerparties (not demoparties, but computerparties... just like the gathering) there are usually a lot of morons. So the morons had some simple fun at someone elses expense. Get over it. It happens everywhere in the real world. And by the way, this really don't relate to the demoscene at all, even though the gathering is sponsoring scene.org. This is done by induvidual morons.

@eye: Hmm...don't think so.
Every girl should be able to walk over every party without having to be protected...that's the way it should be!

Raven^NCE: i'm totally harmless (you can ask DiamonDie), but i'm just giving a vague hint to the ladies that there are enough young men who would be happy to serve them, including myself. :>

kusma: aren't there enough "individual morons" in every sort of society, including the demoscene? after all, demoscene does not select its members, everyone can join without any sort of invitation.

girls shouldn't be allowed at parties anyway.

stay true, stay gay!

eye/midiclub, I think you were trying to be harmless and say something somewhat "funny", but I think the bit about "f you want to make sure you're safe, make sure you have a guy have an eye at you" is terrible.. As a constatation, it's depressing and paternalistic, and as an advice it's downright offensive.

(As it's dangereously too close -for me- to what the usual random rape apologist says about women that "shouldn't dress that way")

Empathy is something one should nuture I think. Especially geeks who tend to be too self-oriented. (self-intoxicated?)

Scientists have recently discovered that women experience four different types of orgasms.

First is the Good Orgasm -- "Oh yes! Oh yes!"

Second, the Bad Orgasm -- "Oh no! Oh no!"

Next, the Religious Orgasm -- "Oh Jesus! Oh God!"

Finally, the Fake Orgasm -- "Oh Stefan..."
The point that knos made is really important. It should be made possible for everyone to enjoy the party in the same way. The important point about "protection" is not whether it is available but whether it is necessary, and it should not!

Wade: I've always known you lack any kind of intelligence and humor, you prove it again and again, and you dont care to read all the posts before posting your own bashing comments without any clue, its no surprise, really.

And why the fuck would she have needed protection? If you dislike people taking pictures of you, you shouldnt be visiting a publicplace in the first place, and if you dislike some people using pictures of you, take it with them, stop being a bitch.

Something similar happened at SE99, couple of germans were covertly taking footage of the curvy bits of women for their own petty amusement.

Once a couple of girls found out, they went up and confronted (well, they mobbed) the perps. I've never seen a bunch of guys go limp that easily :)

Perhaps she should've taken it up with those guys, like stefan said. Running offain't gonna help.

oxbow: no, it is not. the gathering is a computerparty - period.

"If you dislike people taking pictures of you, you shouldnt be visiting a publicplace in the first place"

This is not just about taking pictures, but about such simple but fundamental things like respecting another person. What good reasons did these people have to do something to someone else which that person did not want to?

Actually Stefan, your post appeared as I was writing mine. And how did I know you would contradict yourself anyway?

shifter: hehe, same shit happent to some female friends at a tp party i think.. they did the same, and the guy acted like the guys you are talking about.. funny thing was they didnt really care at all, they just wanted to scare that boy :)

I agree with mjz.
"because they're women" isn't an excuse for ANYthing.
There are so few women in the demoscene as it is, treating them like objects isn't going to make it any better.

"It doesn't matter that this happened at The Gathering, we alll know that it happens on basically every demoparty. "

As if it doesn't happen way more stuff to guys at parties. The finns are famous for their blowjobs. This is not a matter of sexism since both guys and gals are submitted to perverted stuff at demoparties. Quit whining.

I wanted to say something more because I always want to say something. But I almost forgot it..

I think that was the fact that demoscene is pure shit anyways, as the real world is. Just because every kind of people have joined it. There might have been some thing called scene spirit or so, but that's transparent. I see a lot of sceners here who wants to diferrentiate that, by saying "It was gamers fault", "TG is a LAN party,. No, a computer party (hahaha!!!)", "The real demoscene wouldn't do that! (And who the fuck is the 'real' demoscene anyways? ;)". For me, demoscene is not some scene spirit (Even though, after BP, I stopped hating it and felt like a part of it) or religion, it's just a community where perhaps you can find more weird people but some attitudes like the above too (Especially in a male-dominant world. Remember what happened with the ATI presentation from Natasha?). It's to be expected..

I guess that an understanding of what kind of a world the demoscene is, can help you take such things less seriously. For example, I am never offended by Arneweisse or Stefan's comments, because I know they are just joking (and doing it preety well :). Also, by meeting some people at my first demoparties, I stopped taking their flames so seriously because they are just nice people who wanted to have some fun. It's a great feeling to stop taking every thing here so seriously or having a knowledge of what the demoscene really is. At older times I was hurted (really) by some "serious" flames, but now I know..
