9000+ bucks already donated (ok, well, pledged) to keep jason scott out of work! i'm really not sure whether i think this is really cool of people, or absolutely ridiculous. but it sure is pouet-thread-worthy!

You know, the monetary system itself is ridiculous.

smash / fairlight is currently engaged in a kickstart fundraiser. he's unforuinately employed in a stable day job which consumes much of his time. if he can raise $25,000 in one month, he will use the money to take some unpaid leave and finish all the finals for demos he has promised over the last few years and not delivered.
by donating to this cause you'll be able to help ensure that such historically significant projects as the finals of track one and falling down get completed, rather than lost to the black hole that is a lazy shit of a coder who wants you to pay him to enjoy his hobby.
donate today!!1

You can't buy the demoscene, but apparently you can beg it to buy you.

From his original announcement:
Quote:
My rough estimate is that $25k will keep me going for at least 3-4 months, and probably longer.

$25k for only 3-4 months? What kind of a lifestyle is this unemployed guy living? I live on less than that in a full year, including my annual month-long trip to Japan.

Also from his original announcement:
Quote:
Throughout all this, I had a day job - computer administration. It paid well...

Didn't he save any money from those years at a "well paid" job? Shit, I've got enough saved up to allow me to comfortably survive unemployed for several years, and I'm sure I don't earn as much as he did.
