scene graphics stolen (or just lame reuse)?

category: general [glöplog]
So, I was reading a bit of news, when I found this ad. Now, while it's a lame viagara commercial... who doesn't like them blue pills, right? Well, I remember this draing from the BP'03 gfx compo, it's Me and Louie's sister, who won the compo.

I tried to get hold of Helge^HJB, but my internet-fu seems to be insufficient.

My question is: Does anyone know the story here? Is Helge working with spammers, or has he been ripped off?

Someone needed a stock photo of a couple, went to google image search, and bam... happens every day.

i wonder which search-string related to "couple" gave them that result

Its pretty lame when incompetent people steal the work of others and reuse it without permission. But as tamaes said this phenomenon exists since the begining of the Internet; even this cannot help.

Wade's work was based on a "reference photograph". The ad might be using that reference photo—just a coincidence. I don't know what the reference photo looks like though.

Hmm, on second thought, the background looks like it was probably not from the photograph.

Yeah, you can find tons of stuff like this with reverse image serach engines, like tineye.

Yeah that picture sure does get around. I've had a few people tell me about this viagra advert. They never did ask permission and it's quite annoying they cut my signature from the pic.

I took reference from a small greyscale photo so it's quite different to my version, but I still don't hold any copyright. It's kind of flattering and amusing though I guess. :)

I don't know, who had to ask permission first and didn't?

That's a pretty egregious "no-copy" already, isn't it?

@rez should be fun when they find out how much name voting/ip theft they've done. ;)
As much as I see the irony of that story and had a laugh at first. What bothers me is that some shady hardware re-seller is abusing peoples trust by impersonating razor1911 to sell more computers, if that is the case.

I wonder how they manage to have so much software in stock... over 9000 copies of software that costs over 2000€ per copy... Fishy.
