oh, you meant 4 different ones? anyway, there's so much talent in the scene - if you can't see that you must be blind, deaf or braindead.

I'm actually wondering how I am similar to the Humanoid Decipher, pray explain.

Let me let you answer yourself.

I just want to comment on the uselessness of debating with the guy. No matter how right you are, you are wrong. That's all there is to say. There is no changing his opinion because it is anything but that, everything he believes is fact because he believes it.

So from what I gather around here, resistance to change is very common and deviating from the default stance that 'd3m0s 4r3 4 l1f3' makes you either a troll or a tool.

Well, I am sure that many of you are champion debaters in your neck of the woods.
The difference is that I am open to hearing your opinions and defending my own... but I am not resisting the possibility that I might be wrong and that I might be looking at the demo world from the wrong perspective. You, however, have made no effort to convince me that I am wrong the same way that no one made any kind of effort to convince the Humanoid. So to reiterate, what you are saying is :

- 'you're either exactly like us by default or you are our enemy.'

Which suggests that having a girlfriend is a very foreign concept to the lot of you.
dear panamerican tool,

Your group immaturity impresses me.
You come in, start blabbering about bullshit and offend everybody with childish comments about girlfriends and call US immature?

Bwhaha.. ah well, you're Canadian, what the hell do you know :)

Let's look back and see who started calling who names, shall we? Seriously, scroll up and look at who insulted the other first okkie.

As for my intent in posting what I did, I was trying to open up a debate as I stated before. If you were offended it is because you chose to be offended. The second someone comes up to you with anything less than utter worship, you become defensive. That's pretty abnormal if you ask me.
Are you the same fella who came here some years (or a year, can't remember) ago and told people they should profit from their productions? Because i'm pretty sure i've seen this "discussion" before.

It seems that words liike fun, challenge, emulation, realization and ego inflation have no meaning for you.
I just described is what demoscene is.
Did you see greed in that definition ? So there's no debate.
Better try having trappist monks opening sex and coffee shops.

Perhaps that's the reason why you guys on the other side of the pond don't have a scene that's worth mentioning (with very few exceptions).

Discuss that ... and please don't do it here!

You appear to be unaware of some or all of the following:

* demoparties (and other scene projects) do have sponsors
* many sceners have paid jobs that make use of the same talents as their scene work. Some of them get paid to write demos, in fact.

However, and this is the important bit: The things that people are prepared to pay money for do not perfectly align with the things we love to do. In my case, I'm fortunate that they align *quite well*, and I think the same is probably true for most people on the scene.

This means that many of us have successful day jobs, are financially secure, and are therefore free to enjoy our free time doing the things we love, *without* worrying about how to milk more cash out of it.

For this reason, failing to make money out of the scene is not a bug. It is a feature.

dipswitch: 1) Not everyone is EP. Paranoia: dial it down. ;) 2) No, EP doesn't spell that well. :)

But I do agree that the demoscene has the best C64 and Amiga programmers in the world. Perhaps even the only C64 and Amiga programmers in the world.

Look, it's all good. I apologize if I hurt any of your feelings. I just wanted to discuss with people about how the demo world evolved since I last looked at it in the 1990's. If it's still great in Europe, I'm happy. I'm glad to know that there are people out there who develop things on a regular basis. I just think that the demo scene should be more important, larger even, and that it could be so with the participation of corporations who would value the work of coders, musicians and artists.

Perhaps had I communicated my intention beforehand, you wouldn't have judged me so negatively. Anyways...
I thought you left.
