Maybe because Frankfurt is the international hub of the EU and it is shit cheap to fly there than to fly to Oslo?

Availability and cost of booze might actually have influence on the distance parameter ;)

you forget about all people from france, spain, the netherlands, italy, portugal, etc

those would be fucked.

"Those who already travels a long distance will still show up as long as it still is within Europe."

ok. who's up for a demoparty in Hawaii? :-)

Sure, are you working on making Hawaii part of Europe? :-)

But while we are at it, it seems like most Finns and some Swedes went by air anyway and most people seem to argue that it's harder for people in France, Spain and Italy to travel long distances. Wouldn't it then make sense to gather in for example France?

Not that it really matters since it will all come down to who are interested in hosting such an event and the Gathering already is and the BP-crew has announced that they will have a meeting to discuss the possibilities.

Now that I think about it I was mostly just trolling because I had the feeling that those who complained were a few lazy germans that just didn't wan't to travel to another country. Sorry about that.

I'm French, we came to breakpoint by car and Breakpoint was kind of the edge of the area we can reach in reasonable time (that is, one day spent driving). Going to Norway is clearly not an option for me...
Germany happens to be quite the center of Europe, so it seems difficult to move anywhere else...
... but if you're willing to move to france, fine for me :D
Germany is simply the center of the scene, it almost seems the further you go away from it, the less sceners there are (correct me if I'm wrong).

I prefer germany for a large demoparty because it simply works to attract many people, as breakpoint has proven.

That's a bit of a tautology, Knoeki.

"I prefer not having a tail, because it's simply better than having a tail, as evolution has proven".

Breakpoint is big because it has many cumulative years of appeal, not all of which is contingent on its having been in Germany.

menace: I never said I was an organizer.

But we had a lengthly discussion about this just a month ago where one of the actual organizers stated his mind pretty firmly on the whole matter. I take that as a "word from the gathering". If that's changed afterwards, I'll be damn happy.

jeenio, yeah, that would be the same for guys from norway as TG would be for guys from portugal

IMHO the success of Breakpoint is due to the combination of the following things:

1.) Main hall with sufficient space for 1000 visitors + big bigscreen/PA + grandstand so you can actually see the bigscreen
2.) Highly competent compo organizer team that do not screw up the productions people have invested energy into
3.) Outside area with meadow and bonfire directly connected to the main hall
4.) Easter weekend (holiday in lots of countries)
5.) Located near an international airport in central europe
6.) A decent set of rules suitable for sceners on what's allowed and forbidden in regards of smoking, alcohol etc (compatible with hall and city regulations)
7.) Main organizer living near to the location, organizing team living within reach of the location
8.) If in Germany: Non-catholic region or extremely good political connections between politics and main organizer, due to laws that forbid parties on easter weekend.

It will be a hard job covering all of these for a new party. Some things might need to be dropped, which could result in a loss of visitors.

So, before suggesting a hall 1500km away from the next active scene organizing team, I recommend consulting the list above if you really are looking for something that will be able to live up the standards mekka&symposium and Breakpoint have set.

9.) main organizer willing to
9a.) put his money on the line
9b.) tell whiny people to shut the fuck up

reading from some ppl that they would love TUM to be moved to the Easter date is quite honoring to hear.
but, as some of you might know, TUM already is the replacement party for "The Party" ;-)
it's possible (or let's say: "most probable") that some of the TUM organizers will be involved in the process of setting up a new demoscene party on the Easter days as they also helped with organizing Breakpoint for many years / some even since the beginning.
But, let's not rush any solution at the moment - because hey, the end of Breakpoint is only two days old.

benJam is right. Moving tUM or Evoke to easter doesn't solve anything. Replacing one Party with an existing Party still leaves us with one less than the year before.

10) Free chocolate for everyone !
Why do you dislike Great Britain? Would perfectly match the "everything is under control" theme ;-)

Well,

There are plenty of Rundsporthalle's in Germany ;)

Ludwigsburg / Asperg / Filderstad / Ellwangen / Lunen / Bochum / Hagen / Attendorn / ...

11) The beam and event teams are exempt from all those nasty regulations like "wear your organizer shirts", "no hard alcohol allowed in the main hall" (Come on, WHERE are we supposed to put our fridge full of vodka and red bull then?), "every orga must attend the orga meetings" and all the other stuff that keeps us from working efficiently :D

kebby: for the fact that you were so hard to persuade last year to be an orga in this bp, you sound as if it was too much fun :) Come on, admit it, you'll be there organizing the next easter demoparty, again!

xTr1m: iam sure from kebbys experience at this years breakpoint, you can expect him to show up next year.
As for quite a huge amount of organizers from breakpoint, many of them will show up. Its just like, if you have been organizing demoparties for 15 years, we just dont know what to do on easter holiday then ;)
