FlashModPlug

category: general [glöplog]
I think this deserves it's own thread. It was about time we could play these files right within the browser.

What we need: A flash ProTracker clone that allows access to a hosted spamples database and save the mod on the site (plus download for real ProTracker replay). Instant-Protracking so to speak. :) I wonder if this would animate some to make some new quick mods via the webpage. :)

cool stuff :) another way to listen to chiptunes at work... :D

btw...
i currently work on a mainly freeware game remake and require an chiptune artist to provide us with .xm (preferably .mod) music. it doesn't need to be exclusive and can be old stuff too. you'll be credited of course. if there is interest, we do have a playable beta running (win32). ports to other platforms are highly possible and to be expected :)

Haha, and i love the way going to a new channel and hence skipping a channel containing a tempochange, so the tune go way to slow or fast :) Exactly like in the real trackers :)

shifter: Hehe, Ralph said that the PTM-files weren't "checked that hard" :) I tried with "Bugfixed" last night (all-time favourite Vic-tune? almost certainly)

Apart from the "interesting" collection of mods (what's the deal with those DOS filenames?) and the inability to adjust channel separation, this is totally great! Looking forward to a "final" with linkage to a major mod collection etc.

Did they ever fix the sample offset effect in ModPlug? I've never heard PTM modules play back properly outside of Acme's own replayers :(

Yeah, this is good. Proper naming of the mods (filename is useful, but the name of the mod/demo it came from would be more helpful..) and playlists would make it really rule.

Awesome! Now we want even more features :) filefilter for xm, mod etc.

Interesting project...

Since we're backporting the loaders from libmodplug to OpenMPT every now and then, I can safely say that this is not the case. However, I'll have a look at the PTM specs and see if I can get anything useful out of them to fix the PTM loader. The problem is that most specs don't really clarify how an effect works, so it's mostly guesswork unless you know the tracker inside out.

psonice: Real sceners don't need such demo list, they just know ;)

trace: great, they can make a playlist ;)

Seriously though, for every great tune I remember, there are 10 more I've forgotten, and 20 more I've never heard. From the ones I remember, probably half I can't remember the demo or song name. And I had zero exposure to the early PC scene, the atari scene, and anything other than the amiga scene and the mid-90s onwards PC scene.. there's a whole ton of awesome tunes I've been missing.

I listen to music while working mainly, and while exploring the massive number of modules out there would be cool it'd eat way too much time compared to picking somebody's "elite cracktro music from 2009" list and hitting play. Playlist = solution :)

Yes. I agree.

psonice: I think that's the thought behind the "if you happen to have a backend with a load of mods and search API, mail me" part in the text. I suppose for now the guy's mostly working on the playback code.

Yes, we need to lock him up with m0d in a hotel room, and supply them with bacon until the ultimate flashmodplugarchive is born.
