Scene.org Awards 2011

Official news from the Scene.org website:
Quote:
The Scene.org Awards will return in 2011, but after having the event at the same location for 8 years, the time has come for us to move and renew ourselves. We are delighted to announce that next years award ceremony will be held at The Gathering in Norway.

Scene.org has cooperated with The Gathering for many years, and the move is a logical extension of that relationship, as well as a huge opportunity to reach a whole new audience with the awards and to take them to the next level. The decision to change the location of the ceremony is the result of careful consideration and we couldn't be happier about it.

We're still early in the planning process and we will keep you all informed when more details are available. We have some awesome things planned, and we can't wait to share them with all of you - stay tuned!

So there we go! It took us 8 years to move onto another party, even if the original idea behind the Scene.org Awards was to host the event in various locations - but somehow it was just way too convenient to stay at Breakpoint and I'm naturally very happy that we could host the show there for so many years - thanks and kudos to BP organizing for that! However, now it's finally time to move on and continue the ride!

i hope hosting the event with few nominees/winners present at the location will work out OK

yeh, hope it wont turn into the dutch MTV awards where none of the winners are actually present apart from the locals :D

absolutely horrible idea in so many ways..unless TG orgaz somehow manages to make this a scene friendly party.. which in my opinion is only possible by completely separating the two locations. on the other hand.. i guess there was no other option.

The most important thing is that the awards have a new home. Even if not 100% of all the winners are there to pick up their prices, I'm happy TG is willing to offer a place for this event! Looking forward to it.

Yay, but presenting the awards at a lanparty...?

i second xernobyl. it's a bit weird? it's nice to see the awards travel around, but on the other hand it doesn't make sense to have the awards being presented to a hand full of sceners. it just takes away what made the event so special :(

Then why don't more sceners flock to TG? This feels like a lack of general effort from the demoscene to move to another party moreso than it is a bad decision of host parties. A demoparty is what the attendees make it, and you guys just seem to want to give up and not try to improve something we have. Insulting.

I with ferris on this one, if nothing else (closer/better) comes up, i'll try going to TG instead.

Actually, I've always wanted to go to TG - however, this damn BP kept getting in the way!

I opt for a ferry ticket from Fredrikshavn to Oslo :-)
What Ferris said. The real party is where the people are.

And why not at the Evoke?

now if just tg would announce that they have some scener-friendly boozing area i would be ready to book my tickets.

and yeah, a party is as good as we make it to be, it's not just the organizers that make a great demoparty.

No currywurst during easter? Not going to happen :D

pantaloon: Not like you're used to, anyway ;) *fond memories of drunk panta raging around the arena while security ran after him and he kept yelling out "Gloom knows me! It's allright!"*

i've been there more the once tho, and not a single time you were allowed to bring beer into the arena, an exception was tg92, could be that they forgot to check me tho :)

pantaloon: i'm pretty certain that when I was killing myself trying to finish our demo for tg92, our gfx-guys, those slobs, were enjoying more than one beer inside of the arena. Much envy makes me remember this as it was yesterday.

... point being that they must have been sloppy checking for substances at the door that year.

Party like it's 1992!

well, considering the fact that a bp replacement for next year is not confirmed yet officially i can understand the thought about moving the scene.org awards to another party.
i still dont see the urge to make it fix to a specific party at this point in time, though.

if nothing else will happen around easter, i will probably attend tg. but if any bp replacement takes place and i have the chance to attend a pure demoparty i would always prefer that over some "random huge gamer party with a minor fraction of sceners". especially if there are restrictions considering alcohol inside the hall and stuff, cause i do like to enjoy a few beers during the compos :)

just brew your own beer inside
Bringing alcohol inside at TG has usually been less of a problem than bringing alcohol inside at ASM, and people seem to cope there.

well, Assembly has Boozembly, and at TG it's just too damn cold to be outside.
