Sceners on Ireland

category: offtopic [glöplog]
Hello, are there any sceners around Dublin here, just searched job there and waiting for a yes or a no? but wonder if there is any nice geeky stuff there (if) i move found http://www.linux.ie and http://www.clubmac.ie so far
I only know of rc55 from ireland, and he's moved to england (which we're thankful for, because he's brilliant at organising demoparties and not bad at all at tarmacking). But that reminds me, there was an 'irish demoscene' thread here on pouet with a list of irish sceners. Search for that :)

This thread wasn't what I thought it might be. Happy St. Patricks Day anyhoo!

*me waits for Adok to regale us with a tale of how Vienna too has a day celebrating a saint who got rid of all their snakes & thus they spend a day in debauched alcohol-fueled celebration of it every year.*

I knew an Irish scener called Paranoid who wrote articles for Hugi more than 10 years ago, and AFAIK Paradox (formerly a member of Nothing) is from Ireland, too.

a guy from limerick did a talk on the demoscene at the limerick university some years ago. forgot his name. he was on pouet too :-)

also, do people really use "on ireland"? or is it used to differentiate between the state and the island or sth?

skrebbel: that didn't rhyme at all. Took me a few tries to realise it wasn't actually a limerick but a normal sentence :(

And I guess he meant 'in ireland', seems 'on' is somehow a common variant among the people on the scene looking for some good spots where they all would convene.

I'm Irish and living in the UK too. There's a fair bit of new media shite in Ireland (No, I'm not fucking bitter, i'm stout) and a lot of digital animation ppl in dublin which are fun and creative. Most of the geeky stuff is about money or history imo.

Also, the broadband is incredibly shit.

I'm not sounding very nationalistic am I?
Yo, I'm Irish and working in Dublin...no local scene to speak of though.

the Sinn Féin did some cool fire effects though!

they deny all knowledge of that. they are the political front of the people who did those effects...
2B sure 2B sure.

next week, job interview :)
I'm also Irish, and can confirm there is no scene in Ireland.
There was a small C64 group long ago, but no longer.
I'm in Switzerland now.

So let me get this straight...

*checks the episode guide for "Adventures of Bittin"*

In previous episode Bittin ended up drunk on a ferry and found himself in Finland with 32 euros in his pocket, and instead of going home, he bought a bottle of Minttu and a plush Silja seal toy to comfort him in a weird country. He then (apparently) travelled to Tampere without ticket to meet a girl with who she had only talked on IRC, just to find out that she was locked up in mental hospital. Heartbroken, he returned to Helsinki and because he had already spent his money on booze and plush toys, he begged money from a fellow scener to get home. In the process, he lost his travelling card so he couldn't go to work to earn some money.

But what happens in the next episode - Bittin is moving to Ireland to work! Will he make it this time? If he didn't have money to get home from *neighbouring* country, how will he make it over the seas to Ireland? How will he afford to find and rent himself an apartment? Will calories in Minttu be enough to keep him nourished while he spends his remaining moneys in more plush toys? Will he meet yet another mentally unstable girl in a pub and they live happily ever after!

Stay tuned, wait for the next episode in "Adventures of Bittin"!
