My favourite audience-participation moment from the compos:

Yep, Outline 2011 was another fantastic party and it will go down in my personal history as being one of the best parties I have attended (and I have been to quite a number now, over the years).

The good weather helped for the weekend and also the quality of entries for the compos was high too. It's good to see the creative juices flowing.

It was a bit of a shame to see the Atari entries running on emulators rather than the real thing - but Outline is not the only party which is guilty of that. I would think that as emulators improve and the original hardware becomes more and more fragile that this will be the way forward in coming years, even though we'd prefer the use of original hardware if possible.

The atmosphere was superb as always and the catering was also good too, with both the pizza and the Hapkar being of decent quality, even if it was just junk food but there we go. Mind you, judging by at least one or two sceners at Outline, there were some wonderings as to the current relationship status of both of the rather beautiful ladies who ran the Hapkar. :)

Overall, another great party and I look forward to attending Outline 2012.

i liked that intro revival, but who are the drunk idiots cheering for every bleep?!

You'd have been cheering with the rest of us, if you were there, I'm sure ;-)

It's not often that somebody manages to insult the whole set of attendees of a single demoparty. Nice! ;)

maybe I WERE there, and this is a new clever disguise?

and your mom as well.

It is safe to assume that Dwarf's mom has a ...thing for the demoscene.

Also, can the usual stuck-in-the-mud-over-at-Birdie people and afficionados of odd comedy please consider that next years' ascension is 99.9999% taken by something better? Your cooperation is noted.

Oh for those interested. Here is our (cerror and me/xyce) oldskool entry and this time it's in key, instead of being horribly out of tune.

Hi Everybody,

As Outline has passed and I've calmed down a bit of the ammount of work done at the party I feel the need to say something.

Throughout the years I've done these parties with a lot of love and put my utmost best and every gut in it.
Last year in 2010 there were some issues that I ran into and I thought that those would be okay and next time I'm going to organise these will be solved.... I thought.
This year it was such a horror for me so that this Outline hasn't been a relaxation weekend for me.
I'm not going to point fingers at people but ... all what I'm getting from people is stuff like:

why isn't it working
why aren't the slides up yet
why can't I upload my entry
why is the hapcar not on time
why are you running atari demo's in an emulator
why can't we use the mains of the building
why are you late
why is there a hum in the installation
why is the music still loud at 0:00 ?
why are the deadlines not met?

And even stuff like : this is an atari party you should not play the pc-demos at the end but the atari-demos
even by renomated people in the atari-scene I got the feeling that I didn't do it correctly.

At that point it broke me down at the end of the party as I was guttered,
exhausted and fed-up with the comments by people that I didn't do it the right way.
I'm not perfect and I might have done things wrong, I'm human you know...

At that saturday evening I almost snapped and fell out to Havoc and I'm sorry for that, but I held back.
Really I did believe me.
At that point all I could think off was going home and to be with my family.
Why have a bad weekend when I can be at home and have my dearests next to me.

As you might get the feeling of my side of the Outline weekend the thing I want to say is
that I won't be part of the Outline team next year.
I've done this for almost 10 years now and I think it's time to pass on the flame to someone else.

And as last but not least I want to thank all the Outline Crew and a few people esp.

Havoc for initiating the Outline parties starting with the infamous PMP party ( that one still rocks )
m0d for helping out the last 2 years, man you have no idea in what way you've helped me, you deserve the best!

This is not negotiable. I've set my mind and I hope that people don't hold me back for making this decision.
I've been too long on the other side of the party.
I want to attend the party though, but then as a visitor and make some music's or perhaps demo's.
I will assist to some extend to share what i've gained throughout the year, as it's too much of a waste to let things be.

Thank you for understanding,
Matthijs aka D-Force

D-Force:

Maybe the people complaining have a louder voice, but I think you did a superb job at both of the Outline's I have attended (this year and last). It is my understanding that you provided and setup most of the power, audio and networking gear, as well as running the competitions and PMS system alongside m0d. I know how stressful it is to be in a position with so many responsibilities and can understand why you wish to step down.

Of course, myself and others wish that you will change your mind - but I respect your wish to enjoy the party more and spend less time working, especially after 10 years!

Thank you for the time and effort you have personally invested in Outline, it was very much appreciated :)

Note to all: I must say that in a semi-official capacity D-force's post was originally an internal email posted to the rest of the Outline orga team, so please excuse us if some of the discussion appears to be gone because a lot has already happened between then and now with regards to addressing some (if not all) of the issues mentioned.

As for parting the organiser team, I fully understand and kinda relate to the inter-orga-crisis which occurred this year. D-force did a spectacular job considering the amount of pressure put on him and lack of help he was getting. Its shit like this which goes under the radar quite often and I can understand why he feels the way he does when the only feedback we got were problems and nitpicking. Rest assured things will be different internally next year, it has to be or else Outline just won't work.

If there are any volunteers who would like to step in and help out at the party, by all means volunteer, we are all paying tickets (even as organisers) so spreading some of the love would be welcomed greatly. I think I will leave it to havoc to 'outline' the details if need be.

Clarification: by 'only feedback we got' I meant the feedback that came across the front of the compo desk at the party itself. Understandable, but at least a few times there was the occasional there were other organisers to go to at the party while we got on with fixing things :)
