Politic don't have to be forbidden on www.demoscene.tv

category: general [glöplog]
I have to express an advice, that seems important to me, about the warning text before the "production upload" link, on www.demoscene.tv, and have your thought on it: this text is of cource needed, and well done, exept for One point which shocked me a lot. Here is an extract of this text:

-start of the extract-

We thank you to please take some minutes of your time to CAREFULLY read through
our DTV diffusion rules. Failure to comply to any of these mandatory rules may
refrain us from broadcasting your proposed artwork.

Is therefore prohibited to submit:

- Any use of music themes or any other material under copyright regulations or
commercial purpose.
- Artworks contents featuring political or religious orientations and/or
discriminations.
- ...

-end of the extract-

Ok, So here is some civil statement:
talking about politics in the life, and in demo, should be urged on and approved,(that is something you got to learn to people), and in no case forbidden !!! Doing politic is SOMETHING FUNDAMENTALLY GOOD, from the citizen point of view. I write about politic in my works from years in order to make debates in the demoscene at a higher level. What i am doing now is just politic: expressing an advice and debating it with the community.
Look, a demo like CCCP from juliet&case was just superb !
So I ask publicaly the demoscene TV manager to change the sentence to have something like:

- Artworks contents featuring EXTREMISTS or religious orientations and/or
discriminations.

Thanks for paying attention !

i think its a matter of interpretation.

they just wanted a rule to be able to use against extreme cases of racism and such..

yeah, i suspect they're aiming more at nazi propaganda demos and such than demos discussing politics or religion, but that statement does seem a little over the top.

so does it means I can not use a pic of Bush & Sharon sucking each other on a demo ????!
damn

i guess this statement excludes most kooma demos?

it excludes even a weddingto that mentions the religion of the priest, seeing as that is "featuring a religious orientation". We'll have a ban on jazz music next ;)

How about a more reasonable line like "featuring religious, political, sexual or racial discrimination" which would cut out the bad stuff. But then we have the problem of excluding satire from that...

how about banning Anarchy too?!?!?!?!?
and nipples, including mens or it would be sexist.

Why does arnold fight terrorist in his movies, and support the biggest terrorist in modern time, in real life?

Thank you for the good point, Krabob.

As ps and psonice said, our rules are made to protect DTV against extreme cases.
Our point is that DTV is about demoscene and not extreme propaganda.
I agree that our words are a bit harsh :)
Your call is heard, and I will change the warning text as you requested to make it more clear and easily understood.

thank you !! ah ah ah ! wipe rulz.

krabob: Isn't it up to the owners of a website to decide what kind of content they have? It's not like they deny you to express yourself elsewhere.

kusma: yeah, but in fact wipe are cool dudes, and it was clear the text was written a bit quickly... The fact is, some uploaders could perfectly think their demo was forbidden when it wasn't the case.

"Politic don't have to be forbidden on www.demoscene.tv"
FUCK! Demoscene (at least demoscene parties) only works because there are no politics, religions, nations (ok, this is a very weak point), ... So please stop claiming about such shit, we have more important things to do. :)
On a sidenote: There were over 800 people at BP04 but only 2 security people and those only at night. Worked perfectly. \o/
O dear o dear. There aren't hardly any demos that show any orientations neither political or religional. Krabobs point is good. Even if there was, it's part of the society we live in. Only clearly offensive or somehow extremist should be rejected. There is ofcourse huge possibility of misunderstanding what authors have meant. Just if the demos name is CCCP or if there are some clips (by long gone copyright owner) of Hitler jugend doesn't mean that they are extreme left or right. Paimen for example just shows some nazi-propaganda, along with soviet proganda and _random_ quotes from bible. How on earth that could been seen as a sign of any political or religional orientation? And if they are, it should be fine. Keywords are EXTREMIST and DISCRIMINATION. Human is an political and religous animal. Let's just ban everything and wait for the first demosceners (hopefully swappers) to be kidnapped in Iraq. But, afterall, it's up to the DTV to decide what they show and these mere are thread of clearing things out than starting a flame war. (Anyway the relationship between opinions (politics, religous etc.) and demoscene is quite interesting.)

Personally, I'd love to see more politics-related demos. Especially such that promote "Freedom and Democracy"!

MadenMann: I think you are wrong and it is a kind of paradox. Politic is everywhere. Politic is the art of administering andorganizing something. It's not just about opinions. It's a vision.
From a certain point of view, Breakpoint's (and by extension every kind of such events) organisation and orgas are doing politics by putting rules, defining a timeline, awarding the bests, and their only goal is to finally make people happy of their party experience.

Demoscene is a kind of microcosm itself where opinions are demoscene-oriented, not life oriented but it's a little perfect society ;)

Discussion on politics have been banned in certain circles for long, long times... I'd guess as long as man has existed.

I mean, our duty in demoscene is to produce computer art. Taking politics in just causes tension and is fundamentally boring, because political arguments are hard to "prove" and it all goes to the usenet stupidity "you are strawman ad hominem argumentum ad absurdum etc etc".

In my honest opinon I would love to see more political demos.

...but please NOT the 1.000th "Bush is a fucking moron" slogan, everyone on earth (except US patriots and those who don't want to see it) knows today that he's the worst president the US ever had, that he has done huge mistakes, agreed to take the risk to kill and drive away thousands of civilians, etc. pp.

I would like to see topics about things which you CAN change, which helps you and your treatment of your surrounding.

e.g. to reduce prejudges about the gay - lesbian culture; to inform you about the TRUE facts about veganism (and not the lies which the mass medias and butchers tell you); to tell you something about the cruel daily life in South African prisons (or general some real facts about this world) etc.
