Pirating Game Dev Tycoon Dooms Players to be Ruined By Piracy

category: offtopic [glöplog]
Someone found this worth pirating? Looks exceedingly drab and boring.

addition to notable payloads, F1GP (by Microprose) on PC had a pretty nice one:
When trying a naive crack you just lost control over your car after some laps, looks like left/right keys were ignored.
One solution was just to disable the randomness in the documentation check ;-)

More like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_impression

It does look exceedingly drab and boring, even next to the other Tycoon concepts. And far from the typical chartbuster awaiting the inevitable crack.

Photon: There's a demo, so you can try it out if you want to know.

Yes, as we like to say "try a demo of it!"
They actually went and made a demo about it!

Photon: if it's anything like the iOS game with a very similiar name, it's worth playing. I've played Game Dev Story on iOS for hours and hours. Great fun.

played the shit out of gamedev story and bought this game just now. We'll see if it is "the same" or "just as good" or whatever, and i'll report on it :) What sold me was that if the game gets greenlighted on Steam, I will receive a steam key from the company behind it.

nic0: wow, that would allow you to do what? play a game you could play anyway?

Vectory: It would allow me to have all my games collected in one place, as opposed to having a lot of weird serial numbers and files lying around on my harddrives. Because I'll lose them. All of them. Its the same with DVDs :)

After steam has begun giving me easy access to buying and installing games, I have bought tons of more stuff that I wouldn't have done previously. It doesn't do anything that I couldn't do without it, but thats not really how the interplay between technology and humans work. Ease of access = more sales at least in my case. I suspect others feel the same, but if you dont, thats cool :)

Remember that pic about how a pirated movie is "press enter on AVI -> watch film" and the legal version has you go through unskippable warnings and trailers etc.?

With games today it's like...
Legit copy: Select on Steam/GOG -> Buy -> Download -> Install -> Play
Pirated copy: Find Torrent (if any) -> Download (if any seeders) -> Hope it doesn't turn out fake -> Mount ISO -> Fuck around with installation (disconnect from network, etc.) -> Scan crack / keygen / etc. for malware -> Use whatever stupid contrived method the crack / keygen has while listening to some abrasive chiptune -> Play for a bit until the crack breaks -> Find out if there's a newer version of the crack that doesn't crash -> Find newer crack that only works with the updated version of the game -> Find Torrent ...

...or just download a torrent that says it's from GOG, thus DRM free :P (of course there's always the fear of malware)

You are probably confused by the fact that there is a game called GameDevStory that is very much like this one. It is not quite as good (and a hell of a lot easier too).

The only thing i'd improve in this one is maybe introduce some mini-games that makes mastering the game a bit more than combinatorics + improving the graphics which are somewhat shoddy. This is however a game that costs about the price of a pizza, and for that price I think it is incredible value for money. You even get the mac AND pc versions for that price.

Capitalism is a lie from A to Z. "Buying legally". What a load of crap.

If you want to punish warez users, try writing "LAMER!" on random sectors of the hard drive. It's known to work since the old times.

or write free software and stop caring about warez users and live of your own boosted ego instead of a salary. gotta admit, i see the flaw in that logic.

yes yes, down with capitalism and all that. I have voted for the reds already, so I have done my part. I'll be over here, gaming, and waiting for the revolution :)

Working for free sucks. But paying more than what I pay to go to a cinema and watch a movie for something I'll enjoy less than the length of the said movie also sucks. Cost benefit thing.
