Not welcoming

Gargaj > In the context of the demoscene, who's to say what is appropriate, but I would say that it was not a logo that in any way expressed what this site is about.

There are many other logos here that don't capture much or all of what pouet and the demoscene is about, but the boobs logo had something else working against it, which was that it actively sent a sexist signal. And a totally over-the-top sexist signal at that.

It was a poorly conceived joke, and it was thoughtless. I didn't consider how it would impact the site as a whole - it's one thing to pull a stupid and absurd joke when it's just my own handle that's being tarnished - it's another, when the site itself becomes tarnished.

So again - I'm sorry, and I'm happy it's been taken down.

Doesn't anyone find all these disembodied hands in avatars troubling?
that said, given the number of logos on pouet, the boobs logo turned up quite frequently all of a sudden - why?
Quote:
What kind of dumb question is that? Why should the site cater to a bunch of theoretical people that might come along some day in the future instead of its actual users (who can already vote on whether or not logos are displayed)?

Tjoppen> There are already women in the demoscene, albeit they are a minority. Minorities get lost on popular voting.

to make this a little more abstract:
i think the problem with voting is that its outcome does only reflect the opinion of the majority (and i dont fucking care if that majority is white & male or green & neutral, lets not go there).
for charts and prodrankings it works just fine of course, but with taking care of a minority of users it does not.
so if a minority of users feels offended its not exactly the nice way to go "well the majority seems to think otherwise, so go make a demo about it or stfu".
thats why most democratic countries have laws to protect the rights of their minorities, btw.
that doesnt automatically make the opinion of the minority right of course, but they deserve to be heard and taken seriously.
this of course goes for anything, not just pouet logos...

I'd say that if anything, it does *not* go for Pouet logos. Do you piss stains ever stop and realize that this is primarily a hobby you're talking about?

How dare you interrupt the metajerk?

I taught myself that if I want to remain the the tech world I have to defend myself. Lots of women leave because of negativity

IIRC there were around 150-160 votes for the logo when I removed it; in average a logo gets 477.9 votes. So that "majority" was hardly enough to consider it a consensus (Pouet has 18k accounts, I'd say 10% of that are active), though granted, I did not check what the disparity of the votes was.

Isn't this just gender/race stereotyping?

ringofyre> I don't believe "straight white man" is in the lexicon of the mainstream. I could of very well said the privileged or privileged male , but that's not in the lexicon of the mainstream either. It's because the oppressing class is made up primarily of straight white men that it's not in the mainstream lexicon. So long as there is an oppressing class the concept of the privileged will be confused, on purpose, with reverse-racism or straight-phobia and sexism.

Don't get me wrong sig - many of the worlds problems can be attributed in some way (no matter big or small) to the actions of a small group of mainly white, anglo-saxon men.
That said, my skin colour and gentals do not automatically make me part of the patriachy. In the same way that your sexuality doesn't bring about the assumption that you hate all men.
Most straight white men I know quite like looking at boobs, so do most lesbians I know.
I think it's safe to say that having disembodied, lactating boobs on the front page is not really a good thing (unless you're looking for a forum that specialises in such a predilection). Fair call to plaf and garg for sorting that out. But to me personally it does smack a bit of censorship. And that begs the question - where do we draw the line (not forgetting that this is pouet!!!!).

On a tangent but also for some balance here you should see some of the pics of dead and dismembered animals that sometimes get posted on the image threads.

Yeah, I kinda regret saying that myself. I should of said privileged

I've heard that phrase before in reference to my marriage rights. I'm not sure it works like that. I haven't conceptualized why yet. I'll get back to you

Brace yourselves, more offended privileged straight white males who need to defend their positions as privileged straight white males are coming. and they are so god damn butthurt that it... hurts?
Ok, I've thought about it and discussed it with my gf.

I think that phrase comes out of the idea that equality is some finite thing that can't be spent too much in different areas. It comes out of the idea that non-sexist imagery takes away from equality of other people when the only thing it does is take away from is privilege. I think that phrase comes out of confusion that privilege somehow equals equality.
