tomthumb - now in realtime (kindof)

category: code [glöplog]
i miss the post processing of the original.

Oh, I loved this one very much back then!

salinga: wow, way to miss the point by a mile and a half :)

rasmus: the postprocessing is mostly identical, it's the video overlays that are missing. :/

Looks like it's just MJPEG, so adding that back in shouldn't be too difficult

Not really, it's awesome for us non-windows-users to at least see what you've put together :D

visy: I think the files being lost can be a bottleneck... :(

gargaj: ah, so there's no binary release at all? How about the contest it was submitted to originally? Did they just receive the video?
added on the 2013-09-23 14:00:37 by visy visy
visy: I'm guessing yes. The binary releases is the source+tool one I linked to in the OP; the readme notes that there are some files missing because they were "too big", and Statix said he lost them since. :(

Sad. This is why scene.org, archive.org etc. are such lifesavers and invaluable in their work of preserving digital artifacts. Let's collectively make sure things like this aren't able to happen again :)

At least there's the source. Maybe it's time to redux the video elements then? x)

Honestly, I would've loved to take a crack at delivering a realtime version of Staying Pictures instead :/

i'm really not sure how i feel about this... on the one hand, it's great to see a quality old bit of work like this reworked and realtime. And the realtime version looks fantastic. On the other, i still have to watch the video :)

psonice: have you seen _any_ pc demos on real hardware recently?
added on the 2013-09-23 16:42:53 by smash smash
yes, at sundown (and any that run on osx).

That said the only reason I get to see anything for reals is that Dr Claw has the proper equipment. And now that I am working on demos, I will likely be buying the 3rd copy of Windoze in our household : P

C'mon guys, develop cross-platform

Seriously, this was a cool thing to do. More people should do it. (Not me, I'm just a humble graphician and organizer still learning how to use a tracker and swearing at Blender).
psonice: well, better start drawing up a wish list for next year's party then

smash: oh that's easy - something of mine :) (Which will probably have to run on my own box anyway..)

Someone should make a YT group to post all the different possible seeds :)
