Nordlicht 2014 - 25th to 27th July

category: parties [glöplog]
Back at home. Thanks for a great party and thanks to the weather gods for awesome weather.

It was a pleasure meeting you all again and to talk to some new people. Hope to see you again at some party soon.

And again thanks to all participants of the »wild compo«. It was one of the best wild compos I ever experienced and it was a pleasure being a part of it. Props to the winners. You really deserved it. Great idea and execution.

And last but not least thanks to the orgas for delivering another great Nordlicht.
... now Sunspire, you can sleep ... :o)

Seems like this will top my previous trip from Outline to be the longest party trip home. No regional trains running on this track thanks to constructions, and the IC is already 20 minutes late... Oh well, maybe a slightly more positive post-party report once I'm actually home. :)
@Saga: Du bist ja immer noch nicht da!

Indeed. To top things off, there was a lightning striking into the train overhead line shortly before my destination, so trains couldn't keep going, so I ended up arriving home at about midnight. Thanks to xtr1m for the xtr1mely smooth ride from Mainz to Bremen and back (500km - 6 hours including traffic jam and getting food), but the last part of the journey (including buying the "wrong" train ticket first because the train I wanted to take first was still being displayed on their digital arrival table despite not running today, then taking about 4 hours for a 100km trip) was probably my worst demoparty trip I ever had. Fuckings to... not sure who. Partly DB. Partly weather.

ZOMG... if we could have known that beforehand, I would have driven you further south... but I'm glad that you could even make it on the same day. It's not rare that commuters have to stay in a hotel somewhere in between because of rail network screw ups...

Regarding the party, it was a blast, I had so much fun! Mighty props for the compo organizers for their support, you did a splendid job. The location was awesome, and the food... oh the food, I totally dig that tomato soup, send my compliments to whoever cooked it.

It's safe to say that after my first nordlicht, this won't be my last visit ;)

Nordlicht was ossom again, thanks guys!

My only (minor) complaint would be Familie Blockwart (aka the landlord's parents) who annoyed the fuck out of me when I lit the BBQs on Saturday.

Although I was only there on saturday due to scheduling conflicts, I had a great time being there again. The new location is pleasant and offered enough space for the people. The surrounding offers everything you need, an ALDI and a nearby hotel AND it makes partying hard possible without worrying about disturbing anyone. To my surprise, while it was pretty warm outside in the sun, the inside area was mostly colder. That was great! the barbecue was very very good again, too.
To my surprise, the live gigs were really somethign this time. project Ingwyr surprised me a lot. And the dance performance. Well, let me just say, the compos before hadn't had half the attendants, that performance had. So I would call that a success.
For the competitions, well, some had better entries, some could have used more, but all in all I felt very entertained. Especially the wild compo was sick this year!
And last, but not the least, the demosceners. You are all so pleasant to be around and to talk to. It was interesting and relaxing at the same time. Hope to see you next year again. I will be back for sure! (I kind of got myself into a challenge there, which might backfire hard :D)

LOL at kehrschaufel-oma. Ossom twist for next year: have those cozplay girls clean up the place and have the nazi-oma do the dance performance \o/

nice will leech from scene.org now :)
Well, I was not visiting the party due to my first wedding day, but I followed almost the entire event (except when the chinese food arrived) via stream.

Great party, interesting compos, some of them with lots of high quality entries.
Count me in next year, I will be there for sure.

My 3rd placed mod (sharing that position with Gaspode) "Chipheaven", remote entry to the tracked music compo, is available on my soundcloud now:

Hey Dascon. Congratulations to your third place. Hope you get your trophy soon, because I did not take it with me. Have my second place-trophy for my wild-entry. :)

So, finally found some time to write something about my very first demoparty since over 20 (!) years.

First of all many thanks to the organizers to make it all happen (especially Sunspire for being Mr. Everywhere, a great problem solver and, of course, for letting us use the compo PC for testing our intro). Thanks also to Alpha C for letting me include some last minute additions for my (and Dascon's ;) entry)

Also thanks for the party people seemingly enjoying my happy-happy-untz-untz Gravedigger entry. Aaaaaaammmmiiiiiiiiiigaaaaaaaah \o/

Thanks also to Virgill for helping me out with some drum programming for my very first 4klang tune (thanks made, you added quite some percentage to that track)

Many thanks to the crowd on saturday night for enjoying my little DJ-Set. Was awesome seeing you dancing and contributing this way to an awesome party.

And hey: Just found out that I did not rank 4th in the gravedigger compo, but it went out to be a 3rd place....Wow, never expected that....@Sunspire: is that trophy still up for grabs? Don't throw it away, I'll take that one ;)

@gaspode: That treasure is still here at my place for Dascon to get it. Bernd, we hopefully meet soon, so you'll get your personal well-deserved prize-giving ceremony :)

Thanks for everybody making this party the blast for me it was, count me in for 2015 (including spinning some mods, if wanted)

And don't forget to join the Meat Army ;) http://youtu.be/h5IjRaCkUmw

If anybody interested, here's a playlist with all the tracks I contributed to this great party linky

After finally getting some proper sleep, some more positive feedback on the party...
Nordlicht 2014 was really nice, especially meeting some new folks that I've only had the chance to talk to online before. Nice compos with some high quality entries, nice location (although showers would have been a definite plus) and we even had some big luck with the weather! :) For next year, if the party will be happening at the same location again, you might want to check out to remove all the crap standing around in the sleeping area since it was quite small and crowded. On to a more negative point... the PA. I know you are aware of it, but the setup was pretty bad and it didn't exactly help that the local PA guy broke it even more. My entry in the streamed music compo basically consisted of a bass drum and nothing else thanks to that.
Anyway, nice party, and I will try to be back next year. ;)

I had at least bass drum and some terrible noise :D
But honestly: Yeah.
When i heard my entry on the pa, i felt really embarrassed, first thinking it was my fault and wondering how i could release something mixed like that and not notice it before. Then i heard that the following tracks had the same issues. Which didn't make it any better besides me feeling a bit less incompetent...

From the organizer side: We tried to change that and talked to the guy not to change the mixing settings and at least not during a running compo. But he didn't really understand that.
I suggest renting a PA somewhere and not use the one in the location next time, if the party will happen at the same place again. Even if we don't have enough money for a decent one then it would make the location owner stop messing with the mixer...
The sound, especially during the streaming music compo, was a nogo and ruined the entries. Listening to the tracks was more fun with a 10€ headphone afterwards. :/ If I had known that before the compo, I would have withdrawn my entry and warned the participants. Really.

But to clearly say one thing: It was not a fault of the compoteam. They did an awesome job.
Speaking as 50% of the network team: Sorry for the internet downtime on saturday. The media converter connecting the ISP's fibre with our party network broke and someone lost the mobile number of the ISP guy. ;) - We tried to buy a new one (Special thx to OhLi and Myuca who were sent out on a quest to find a shop selling something like that) but that thing was nothing you can just buy in a shop. Finally, thanks to mrplow, who was able to find the number in one of his mails, the internet was back after a woman from the ISP brought 2 new converters.
Seems that downtime (and 2 Mails and a call during that) was a reason for the ISP to monitor our connection status. They called us when we were disassembling the equip on sunday right after arv shut down the router and were like "WTF ist happening?! You are offline!" :D

What else to say? Ah of course:
It was a really nice party, we had great compos and it was fun with all of you. The outside area was nice, ABER IHR KÖNNT DA DOCH KEINE ZIGARETTEN HINWERFEN! DA LAUFEN DOCH TOURISTEN DURCH! :D:D

Personal highlights:
-Strandkorbtuffi ^^
-Schaufel-Oma putting white table clothes on the coffee table, complaining about spilled coffee every 5 minutes and changing it until she finally used a plastic one while the observing sceners around were all like "table clothes?! WTF is that?!" :D

Had the same issues with the sound on my exe-music entry....way to overpowered mid frequencies....or was ist the tune? ;)

@RBR: I liked that tune from you a lot :)

And while we're at music entries, here's the full version of my entry - now more than a minute longer!
Nordlicht 2014 was awesome!!

You people were great, mood was relaxed, apparently everyone was mostly feeling free to enjoy themselves, the ambience, venue, drinks, talking, demos, music, graphics, snacks and other conveniences.
It was only my third demoparty, they seem to be getting better and better! :)

Was nice meeting many of you again, and getting to know some new ones aswell.
The location was in retrospective very well suited - except that there are no showers. But I heard there was a tankstation with an offer for that not too far away.

Was kinda missing the Westbad from last years location, but I heard it wasn't so far away (~3 kilometers).

On csdb I found a thread with Jasmin68K's link to a torrent with her pictures.
They are quite numerous and diverse.
