What's up with the 5-10 second page loads...?

category: general [glöplog]
I get the same effect with or without cache on 3 high-end PCs, and regardless of browser (Chrome, Firefox, Opera tested).

File server seems OK, if twice as slow as my cheap hosting. Database calls are nothing, very fast. I was thinking some huge JS scripts or fonts.

Even the "Successfully posted" - "get back" page takes 10s. Very strange. Or clicking a page from index.php goes fast, and then clicking the logo (to load index.php, cached 1 minute ago and unchanged) takes 12s, like in the pic below. And then it will be fast again for a few navigations. But mostly slow.

There are some "pending" files, that's all I could find, I just took a glance though.

Screenshot from network inspector, latest Chrome if it helps:

Maybe it's that certificate thingy or some other external link mucking things up.

It's because the voting for prods is done on paper.

Worked fine on Datastorm with 234 visitors, not sure what it has to do with the topic. Sorry if comparing my cheap host with yours offended you. It's not like I don't have troubles with my host as well, but I'm on them like a hawk when they're not delivering.

Fewer d/b calls in an effort to eliminate d/b server:

These are worst cases for probably a dozen tries each, though. Typically for these two pages, pingdom result are about 2.5-2.8s, with rare downward spikes to 500-900ms.

Just looks like the usual 1000 site shared hosting server load shuffle to me.

To this 100Mbps fiber user the 10-12s loads look like complete shutout for 8s and then page load starts.

OK, so you're not on shared hosting. One slur each then I guess, although I hadn't checked. It started about a month ago, if it helps.

I get long response times for 2-3 letter searches where entire site stops responding (while in another tab) until the original search finishes.
That's "normal" and not really related to Photon's report, though. Can't say that Pouet would have been slow for me lately, though.
"page created in 0.103217 seconds with 4 queries."

your internet just sucks bigtime or you have some firewall/security software bitching in between.
"page created in 0.011125 seconds with 6 queries." That is for this page though.

I too have found that even just using the search function pretty much locks up that tab. Chromium (*nix) and Chrome (win7).

i'm not a web coder but the diagrams are easy. where's the culprit? depuzzle it. 2 + 2 stages? connection or sending? both not a pouet problem. blame your isp or traffic not to find a quick route anymore? the server is okay. and knows where to deliver to. ;)

imo

Searching for "abc": ~0.48s
Searching for "ab": ~2.8s
Searching for "a": ~133s (and yes, it locks up for a while...)

And yes, this is "normal". After all, you get 1482 results pages (with 25 items each), so ~37000 items in total. Then again, the user experience (tm) for this edge case (tm) is suboptimal (tm) and probably needs some improving. :)

I'm guessing Ben Johnson, Carl Lewis, Mo Greene, Tim Montgomery, Asafa Powell and Usain Bolt - the record holders for 100m dash.
