Yeah my voice finally has recovered. I actually had to take a day off since I kinda need a voice to do my job :)
It was awesome, I had a blast!
I really enjoyed editing all the high-end nominee-videos for the Meteoriks, and working together with Havoc on the schedule for the dj's/vj's (although he did the heavy lifting, most of my time went to the award show).

I'm very happy with my set of DUB Demoscene Batlle Cards!

Although I started a bit later, I very much liked to do something different this year music-wise. I think the whole vaporwave-thing was solid. As I predicted a lot of people went away, but that is the price to pay for any experiment. To those who stayed:thanks. And to those who returned en masse when I switched to goa on request of the infodesk: welcome back :)
One of the highlights for me was playing soothing soundscapes mixed with psychedelic rock form the late '80s. See after some years I learned that people also want to sleep at demoparties! :)

Vj'ing while Deathboy was playing also felt very rewarding. I should make some new material though and buy new gear :) Nevertheless, it was big fun!

The only downside to the party was not having a demo done. This will definitely will change next year, I'm done coming to Revision empty-handed demo-wise :(

Next year I'll be available for the teardown as well, I kind felt like I let the orgateam down by leaving early. This to is something I should change. We already started production, as a matter of fact.

I very much loved every second of it. From the completely-out-of-touch pc-demo compo with all it's madness, to sitting at the campfire discussing Russian politics.

Yes I would like to have these too, especially numtek's great set.

Awh /0\ Thank you! Well that would be a 5.5hour file :) But as far as I know it wasn't recorded. At least not on my side.

erhmz. wel there you go for not having an edit function (read:not checking your post beforehand) The part about already starting refers to making a demo about it, obviously.

well numtek, i guess you have to record it (or another set like it) again for us to enjoy then...

Finally home, unpacked and ready to fall asleep again.

I’m really happy to be a part of the organizer team - you guys are really amazing. And of course lots of love to all the visitors. You really blessed us with some epic entries while partying like hell. Just wow!

Hi everyone
I have a small help request. I have lost my old trusty Iphone4 on Revision, somewhere on Saturday around 23.30 in the tunnel (maybe got stolen along with Ghostown stuff- who knows). It was half functional and not much worth, but has some sentimental value for me. If anyone found it, or knows the guy who knows the other guy...etc then I would appreciate geting in touch, thx.

Apart from that, Revision = the biggest party ever!

Awesome party, and extra special thanks to Havoc and Steltek for finding my slipmats when I was dumb enough to leave them on the decks outside. ^__^

BTW: Did someone miss black gloves in kid-size? Their appeared in my bag after I went home. Don't know where they came from.

Another year of Revision (co-)organizing is in the books for me. The result was an awesome weekend with 13 live music, dj and audiovisual performances, 2 vj's, 7 man-to-man live shader coding battles with dj support. I couldn't have done all this without the support of my fellow organisers and all the artists involved. Thanks first and foremost to Numtek, my fellow Event Chief- even if your ID card told a different story, I couldn't have done this job without you as my equal in rank. Thanks also to Dfox for giving us the opportunity to do this job again, it's really awesome to work with a leader who is not afraid to embrace unorthodox solutions and improvements. Thanks to Steltek for being an awesome and dependable Event Team manager, and always finding ways to make my crazy suggestions work out better than intended. Thanks to Acryb for the effective tech support, no nonsense and always straight to the core of the issue at hand.

In the days, hours and (literally) minutes leading up to the live coding battle, quite a few people were instrumental in making the event possible at all and a success in the end. Besides all 8 ballsy coders who took the stage and will remain my heroes until eternity (mu6k, Kabuto, Eybor, wsmind, XT95, LJ, Ren Hoek and Hardy), I want to thank Gargaj, Red, Chaos, Abductee, Zolo, kb, las, Franky, Alkama, rp, lug00ber and our backup competitors Xtrium and Visy. The sad thing is, although I've grown to love live coding and care strongly about the future of the event, I do not think I'm the right person in the right position to take it to the next level. I hope another volunteer can be found to spearhead preparations for this awesome event if it takes place again next year, and I'd be more than happy to support the new dedicated team lead that the livecoding event deserves, both in preparations as well as execution of the event.

The music events we organized got a strong crowd reaction for the most part. The only sad moment was on saturday when Alkama's set was cut short and got little attention due to circumstancial pressures. Maskinpop took not only the mainstage but also the big screen in only his third ever performance, some people said it was a gamble but Bob certainly delivered the goods and set the right mood for the rest of the weekend. Later that night Roccow of Poobrain got the whole bar area dancing, and Numtek set himself up for a few days of sounding like Joe Cocker in the deepest of night. Deathboy threw a rave on saturday evening that shook the trousers of a massive crowd- we knew he would bring the party but this superceded any organiser's expectations. The BLEEPSTREET Records DJ crew followed up by rocking a full bar area until the early sunday morning hours and Subi woke us up again at noon on the outside stage with a perfectly fitting oldskool set. Bacter and Dipswitch both delivered awesome sets on the outside stage later that afternoon in unexpectedly sunny weather, a circumstance we had not anticipated in the weeks before the party. Lord/Spreadpoint provided the threeway dj set by rp, hoffman and lug00ber with a really cool live audiovisual introduction performance, after which the aforementioned demoscene dj'ing legends performed to his visuals in front of a fully filled and very enthusiastic mainstage area. After the democompos, on the second stage Cheesy and Glxblt then provided a murderous last challenge to the crowd's muscles and joints as well as the Revision beer stock to close a weekend of almost universally awesome music events. It was a joy to captain that ship and I hope I will be allowed to sail many more miles with my much appreciated friends :)

I'm going to close this message with a link to the awesome photos Niklas Gustavsson made of the party, because I think his outsider's visual perspective can explain what we are doing so much better than any words could- Enjoy!

After watching several stunning 4-64k PC demos last weekend (and afterwards), I started wondering how much of the result is really coming from those few bytes. And how much is coming from OS, drivers etc.

So I wondered if something like a "naked" compo would be possible? So just the bare bone hardware (and BIOS if required). And would people even bother doing and watching that?

I definitely would, but that's maybe due to my Atari 2600 background, where we are doing exactly that (though with much, much more primitive hardware). :)

This has been brought up many times but I don't think most people are really up for or even interested in it, it seems, otherwise we'd have seen a bunch of prods like that already.

Or maybe I'm wrong and people need specific compos to get them to create something.

So "chicken-and-egg problem" or lack of interest.

Longest discussion ever.

For me it's not really a difference whether the resources you use are directly provided by the hardware or whether you access them via some API (it's a feature of the platform you are using and even on the lower-end platforms you have things the hardware does for you. It's not like you start from nothing, unless your name is LFT).

As long everything used is available on the respective platform (vanilla state) - it's alright.

End of discussion.

And those really old platforms are often stock, meaning one is 99% the same as the other. With PC, all bets are off.

If you have a "platform", you don't start with nothing.

I would suggest you start a new thread, and talk about it there. You wont reach the people potentially interested in talking about it by posting in the revision thread.

It is simply amazing. No bias or anything.
Seems you had a good time :)
The video is like a condensed party experience - thanks for sharing!

You're welcome! Glad you like it :D Slapping the video's together was post party depression treatment as well.
i very much enjoyed the vegan foodstand, but i'm also a sucker for indian food so i might be biased. the vegetables seemed fresh and also they gave you bits and pieces for pre-tasting before ordering anything, which was awesome. but i would love it even more if they had something non-indian on their menu as well, just for more diversity.

i really did not like the fries from the wurst stand though. unfortunately they tasted like VERY old grease this year. 3:

Great party as usual, I regret I spend too much time coding and not enough time enjoying it. But the public's reaction to our entry made me very happy. Thanks to Las for all his help and patience.

Some feedback:
- we really liked the fact the jingles started at a low volume, so we had time to grab the headphones for the kid.
- the vegan food was great (says my SO)
- The shuttle bus was problematic this year: On friday night, the 1 o'clock bus driver didn't announce where he halted, so some people missed their stop. On saterday night 2 o'clock he did though.
- It's completely unclear for Hotel Madeleine where the bus is supposed to be in the morning. The night bus halts at Rathaus, not Johanneskirche, but on Saterday morning there has been no bus at Rathaus. There are 3 bus stops very close to the hotel, so it's unclear where you're supposed to wait.
- Is there a way to increase shuttle bus capacity after the compos? The bus filled so fast that it left 5 minutes early. Maybe split in 2 circuits: first ride a full bus to the closest hotels, get back to the partyplace, and then drive again half an hour later to the further hotels?

I know that this is very unlikely to fit in the available space, but a separate quiet room would be a godsend for coders finishing their productions. Maybe the seminar room can serve as a refuge during the concerts?
