Quote:
• Extensive experience with development of 3D tool, WebGL (not a hobby)
• Experience with tree.js and / or Babylon.js is an advantage but not a requirement
• Program language: Java

Contradiction is contradicting :)
Java is not JavaScript :)

There is a minuscule chance that they're doing something legitimately interesting and WebGL-related that just happens to involve Java development. Like porting the WebGL API to the Rhino JS engine, for... some mysterious but important reason.

On the other hand, "tree.js". Nope, they're just clueless.

ok thanks, I'll pass that info on (I myself have no idea what is tree.js or the other clever stuff in the original post that I forwarded)

i reckon tree.js is just typo of three.js :) also got me puzzled for a few seconds there though :p for those who don't know three.js is mrdoob's open source 3d engine that most of everyone uses when doing 3d stuff on the internets, it also renders in webgl.

That'd be a perfect match... but a very poor pay.

I think it is right on the money, for somebody with 2-3 years of experience. It returns up to £2.8k a money after tax (take home), or 3.6k euros. Sounds reasonable to me...

3600 euros after tax would make you part of the top 10% in Finland by far.

Awesome thread!

The Green Hippo job sounds really cool, but the salary seems quite low. I don't know about this industry and the level of experience they want, but all the offers I got for London as a JavaScript / Front-End developer were at £70k + benefits.

Yeah even the lower end doesn't sound exactly poor to me, the top end is pretty damn high at least for Finnish standards. Then again apparently for an example in the US apparently the average software developer makes close to $100,000 a year so I don't know if other countries just have much higher expectations.

But again, I have no clear idea about this industry and the level of experience they seek.

"but all the offers I got for London as a JavaScript / Front-End developer were at £70k + benefits"

The offers YOU got.... I would definitely not take that as an average salary :)

I know.
But to me the Green Hyppo position seem to require more skills and risk ( you don't want to fuck up the show on live TV or on a concert of the Coldplay ) than a "mere" JavaScript dev.

ah yes...

* p01: judging from your experience and what I've seen on pouet, I think that the price that you're getting is about right (even low). Of course, a developer job in the city is different to a far more relaxing somewhere else (the ones on offer are not central London, so living expenses are lower). £70k is a lot of money, but many people get that and more. However, you may be prepared to work long hours or do a not very inspiring job.

* Getting over the £40k mark means that you start paying a lot more taxes. So the jump from 30 to 40 has a lot more impact than the jump from 40 to 50 and so on. Some people would rather find the right balance of work/income somewhere in the middle. In general, I've found that employees here are fairly reasonable about that - jobs even over 100k exist for programmers, but it's going to be hard work, whether you have the skills or not.

* The jobs on offer are for somebody who would be (assuming a normal career path) around mid 20s to very early 30s. It is not very senior nor very demanding.

* Working in US: I don't know much, 100k$ might be good (with the lower taxes over there), but... you have to live in America, it's quite different to good ol' Europe.

p01: Out of curiosity, did that Javascript job entail only "web development", or were you expected to *program graphics* as well, including WebGL?
