3D models from photos

category: offtopic [glöplog]

..so, long time back, I'd encountered this software, where you could give it pics of your face, and it would generate the 3D model from it! The company, as far as I remember, was called "Singular Inversions" - does anyone know whether it's still there? How far along has the software come? (this was like, a good Decade ago). Has it improved over time? And are there any others like it?

....just thought someone here might know.
if you know the name of the company and what their product does why not simply use the power of the interwebs and get on that really really awesome journey called: finding it out o_Ô
there are like tons of these. most are still quite quirky and result in meshes with terrible topologies and texture tearing that require clean up for serious use.

Maali: retopo does exist, 5 minutes of 3DCoat after getting an Autodesk ReMake model isn't really an issue.

(ReMake also has retopo, but I can't vouch for the quality.)

hi guys,

my workflow is (when not modeling from scratch)

http://www.agisoft.com/downloads/installer/

agisoft photoscan Standard Edition
(if you don´t like other companies seeing your works like cloud based solutions
123catch etc.) very good software - russian coders - good guys - good stuff - i highly recommend it.

rough retopo with zremesher in Zbrush:
http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/topology/zremesher/

then the rest is all traditional digital „hand-craft“ and cleanup.

sorry gargaj, i´m doing stuff like that every day and although tools like photobased
scanners exist - it´s still a lot of work getting things right.

„isn't really an issue“ is like a statement from a gfx artist view: „coding a demo is no
big of a deal“ - we just use unity/ue etc.

no offence - i know that you are aware of that - there´s no „one click“ solution for anything.
just saying ;)

greetings cosmic
Well, as usual, i am gonna be *slightly* off-topic, but i think this is a funny way of turning "images" to 3D Voxelcubes using Minddesk's Qubicle Voxel Editor (really nice tool!).

Totally NSFW and not for the PCSJW at heart.

[I promise to you, it is worth a watch, i really had quite some fun making this.]
