See you on Friday at eight
Thanks guys for my nomination! :)

I still miss the 8k category a bit (to see whether I did a good job this year or not), because otherwise all the 8k prods have no category to go, but you are still doing a great job. Keep it up! :)

If anybody wonders why there are only four nominees in the oldschool intro category: one nominee was removed at the authors' request.

Basically what KK said, best highend intro should contain both 4k and 8k. I personally blame Gargaj here for calling 8k 'not the best category for anything really'.

8k++ (merge with 4k, which should have everything <=8k then)
I am doing explicitly 8Ks nowadays...so no chance for any nomination ever! ;)
(It´s kinda hard to compete in "best concept" or "best design" or "best storytelling" or even "best demo" in this limited amount of size! ;) )
8k is the new 64k!!! ;)

Some stats to get you fired up!

METEORIKS 2017 IN NUMBERS

Over the course of 5 MONTHS
we received 29 CATEGORY SUBMISSIONS
which 21 VOLUNTEER JURORS from 8 COUNTRIES
discussed and settled on a final set of 12 CATEGORIES.

Further during those 3 months, the jurors formed 11 JURIES of 3 JURORS each
who waded through at least 1155 PRODS looking for nominees,
helped by your 152 PROD SUGGESTIONS via our website.

They finally came up with 60 NOMINATIONS
for 5 SCENERS, 5 STILL IMAGES and 38 INDIVIDUAL PRODS
out of which 10 HIDDEN GEMS had never made Pouet's top of the month.

We will ultimately spend 90 MINUTES
at Revision to hand out 12 STATUES
to the applause of 900 SPECTATORS (not counting the stream)
for that is what all of you deserve for making this a great demoscene year! <3

See you tomorrow! o/

What's about this new trend calling intro a demo. You can call everything a demo, fine, but at least you should be consistent,i.e. 4k is an intro, while 64k is a demo !? That's just bs.
added on the 2017-04-15 18:53:37 by tomkh tomkh
Maybe it should be called "Best Production" instead, in case there are "merged" categories next time.

D.Fox: oh no, I just realized how grumpy I am becoming ;P just arguing on the names. Best high-end prod. sounds better yeah. Anyway, congrats to Gargaj/Zoom/BoyC and other winners ;)

Of course the two intros won. Who had honestly expected otherwise after the backlash for killing the 64k category? Congratulations Meteoriks – not only did you piss off the people who liked intros in the past year (like myself) but you also completely invalidated the whole concept of the "BEST DEMO" category in one swell swoop, pissing off people who make demos (like myself). That's massively impressive.

@gloom, not for the sake of arguing that you are right or wrong, but I would love to see your preferred list of categories that would be worthy of a proper demoscene awards. I've seen the inside process this year and it was not easy. With only ten categories to choose from (two categories are set in stone, they are "New talent" and "Public choice"), it was incredibly difficult to cover the whole of the demoscene without making compromises.

Mimimi again *sigh*
added on the 2017-04-16 00:29:53 by gaspode gaspode
Or in other words ... Gloom, you can have your opinion. But I think your style of stating it is a little bit counterproductive in this case.

Btw: I was surprised conspiracy won best demo. I thought Cocoon would win.
added on the 2017-04-16 01:34:03 by gaspode gaspode
@introspec: I have amsready written a about that further up in the thread, but since "New Talent" is written in stone then skip "Best Storyline" snd bring back "Best 64k intro". Leaving it out made zero sense looking at the releases that came out the previous year, and looking at the 64k intros so far this year it makes equally no sense to skip it again.

@gaspode I get annoyed when the worlds most predictable thing happens after being warned of by many people. What the Meteoriks did was basically to say there wasn't any "Best Demo" at all last year - the biggest and most established category of prods in history, and that's just dumb.
added on the 2017-04-16 08:42:12 by gloom gloom
Almost exactly as I expected regarding the demo category (I thought Mercury would get it), and while I'm of course happy about our win, I feel equally bad for Cocoon/Still/FltCncd and those who were left out of the category because of our nomination there. Hopefully you'll rethink this for next year because the 64k compo here at Revision already screams for it.
