Demobit 2018 Resonation - 2-4 February 2018 - Binarium, Bratislava, Slovakia

category: parties [glöplog]
Čaute!
Dear fellow demosceners!

After the Resurrection last year, Demobit has not passed into the afterlife just yet; it still resonates!

Demobit 2018 - Resonation is actually fast approaching. It will be even more exciting than last year and you just have to explore this not-so-known demoscene country these days that yet holds a strong oldskool demoscene history!

LOCATION: The Party has an outstanding futuristic venue called the Binarium and White Dragon. Check our website for more information, also, if you need extra help sorting your travel or hotel out, we will try to help obviously. Unless you wanna stay outside, but then you have to drink enough borovička! ;)

Some cool party features we have planned:

  • No fast food, real cuisine instead! (proper warm food to fire the creative belly)
  • breakfast and hot quality drinks available for free
  • In-house bar with beer on pipe (Pilsner Urquell)
  • A much bigger screen than the last time ;)
  • Artistic Jury Award (art professionals giving out artistic prize made by prominent Slovak artist)
  • Live concerts/DJs + VJs
  • Separate sleeping room and showers
  • Pirates and Pioneers retro game exhibition (ZX Spectrum text games created in socialism)

And more surprises still on the way while we're planning planning things!

A demoparty needs competitions! Expect these:

  • PC demo
  • Oldskool demo
  • PC intros (4k, 8k, 64k )
  • Oldskool intros
  • 256 bytes
  • Wild
  • Animation
  • Photo
  • Graphics (combined)
  • Music (combined)

Check our website for more details on these compos and the specifics in terms of rules and hardware.

Also, we have some cool live-acts and speakers planned.. It is still a bit in the works, but you can expect:

  • Ronny - doing a cool DJ set in the coolness you can expect!
  • Pandur - Introduction to cables.gl - learn how to work with 3D objects, images, animations, sound and video in cables and how to make a demo with it.
  • Raist: what is video mapping and how to get start with it - city facades like canvas, bending of reality by audiovisual experience (in Czech language)
  • Rrrola will finish his second half of 256 bytes coding tricks
  • Goto80 blasting awesome chiptune because chiptune is mandatory!
  • Lesnik doing DNB mixed with acid jazz and other styles!

( more to be announced! )

Due to personal circumstances, if I arrive it will be a last moment decision (like, the day before). How is it with sleeping arrangements, is it easy to get a room or sleep on the floor (too old) or something?

The very best "sleeping arrangements" I have ever seen were at React demoparties in Greece: there were literally 100 brand new mattresses all over the place (a big theater), free for all to sleep/rest, and no need for covers due to warm weather.

warm weather not guaranteed

I missed you last time - I want to meet you. If you plan to drop in, I'll try even harder :-)

Navis: it is easy to get a room in that nice socialist hotel where you stayed last year :)
http://www.hoteldruzba.sk/en/accomodation-in-bratislava/

but the sleeping room will be provided again, separately from the party place so you will not sleep under the stage but still in the same building

nagz: warm weather not guaranteed but warm sleeping room for sure :)

Vienna seems to be on my optimal route to the party. Just to clarify, there's a bus from each of the 3 companies mentioned on the Demobit site every 20/30 minutes? Or is it a different company every 20/30mins, and therefore it's possible that you have to wait 60-90 minutes to get on the right bus if you buy a ticket online?

Also, you recommend some online taxi apps on the site. Does that mean regular taxis are to be avoided? Or just more expensive?

havoc: there's also a train from Vienna airport to BTS every hour. we're doing that :)
Navis: I also wanted to meet you but for some reason missed you. Maybe we will have more luck in 2018.

havoc: When I was in Bratislava some time ago, I paid the same amount of money to the taxi driver for taking me from the train station in Bratislava to the place I was visiting (within Bratislava!) as I had paid for the train ticket from Vienna to Bratislava. So taxis are obviously expensive in Bratislava and that may be the reason why the organizers recommend some particular taxi companies instead of the national taxi service.

strange, usually national taxi services are the more reliable ones..
is there Uber in slovakia? if not, i'd take Taxify. or walk. or carpool. whatever

adok: ok interesting, good to know :) just for reference, how much (approximately) was that train ticket? smth like 15-20eur is my guess based on googling for travel options, let me know if that's way off plz :)

maali: hmm why train? once every hour is OK but less than 3 buses in the same hour, was my reckoning :)

nagz: yes, there is Uber is Slovakia, it's mentioned on the Demobit website even ;)
added on the 2017-12-06 11:57:12 by havoc havoc
cool. i gotta reinstall it then for those few days
added on the 2017-12-06 12:02:36 by nagz nagz
I'd have to buy a smartphone for those few days, hence my interest in other taxi payment options ;)

well, watch out...you can take a train to Bratislava from Vienna CITY, but take a bus from Vienna AIRPORT (Schwechat) rather (train is more expensive and takes longer)

havoc: and yeah, from the AIRPORT goes different company every 20-30 minutes (1 company = 1x per hour),
regiojet.com/en every hour (...: 00) 5 EUR
flixbus.com (... : 50) 5 - 7.50 EUR
slovaklines.sk (... : 30) 5 EUR

the best way for taxi services are Uber, Hopintaxi or Liftago apps, however, if you call some regular taxi it should be also fine too (maybe taxibratislava 02/16 300 or ABC Taxi 02/16 100)

the worst choice is to take a taxi which is already waiting on the street prepared for its victims (charge 3xmore, especially when you are a foreigner)

Seems Rotterdam/Amsterdam to Vienna flight might be the best solution and then just take a bus to Bratislava. I'll see how cheap is stays for last moment decisions or if the tickets are all starting to get sold out.

havoc: Yes, I paid approximately EUR 20 for the train ticket.
