I just prefer asking people than machines, that's all.

Because you don't "prefer" something, everyone else should do it for you?

In this case just watching old IRIS demos would have solved it. One can see it even from the screenshot http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=72844 At the same time you would have fun watching demos.

So instead you prefer to waste other people's time by asking them to do what you yourself just don't feel like doing and expect them to happily oblige, while at the same time adding noise and contributing nothing useful?

That's pretty toxic when you look at it from the community perspective.

Allow me to illustrate:

If you open another thread like this I'm banning you. You probably need to make decades worth of demos to make up for this shit.

Even on "residue", not visible on the home page?

Sorry for this whole business, but my question was answered and the thread could've been closed before this nastiness erupted. I know I have been a prolific thread starter here for questions, but I will cease now, if it's wasting precious space that would be better suited for programming advice or events, etc. I didn't even realise I was irritating people (although my Net Neutrality thread went south fast, sorry).

As for Google, I do actually use it for certain types of questions, like technical ones, most of the time, but to be honest, I didn't know how to phrase it for questions like on this thread, so I asked actual sceners here. I guess I'm seen as a pest or something. But I don't want to be on such bad terms here, I use this site every day.

Sorry once again for being a nuisance, please don't ban me (I don't even know if they're permanent) and close this thread if you like.

:)

If you would do some research in the bbs you would be able to find out.
Or find it out the hard way, depends on what you prefer to get this question answered ;)

That wouldn't have changed the fact that you are a help vampire, neither does opening a thread as residue help with that. This is not just about this particular question, it is about your general behaviour you have shown over the last years, which reflects that of a help vampire, even if you may feel personally that you are not one. Read that damn article and understand what it means, and what you can do against being a help vampire.

Why is help vampirism such a bad thing here? Is this board limited in some way, so that question threads take up precious space? Why do you hate them so?

That question was answered in the help vampire article. It is located here (see, I dug it up for you). If you are honestly interested in the answer, go read it.

Also - in case you did not catch the irony, that is _exactly_ the kind of question a help vampire would ask. You were pointed to a resource - you didn't pay attention to it. You didn't try to google for an answer. You didn't (probably) think about it much either. You just asked the question, assuming someone else would be happy to answer it for you.

Foebane72: for similar questions in future, one source is the Demozoo edit history (link at the bottom of each DZ page). For example, here you can see that menace's first edit on 2016-08-25 was a change of group nickname. If a group really changed name, I would expect to see both names in the DZ record, or to see the change reflected in the history.

Serpent: nice screenshot :)

OK, OK! Yes, I did read it just once before. Guess I needed to read it many times to let it sink in. Just don't bring out the stakes and garlic and defangers, OK?

I'm a big fan of Gargaj's line of reasoning too. Foebane72, you've asked a lot of questions and got a lot of help over the past couple of years. Maybe it's time to give something back and contribute?

I don't know how, really. I've added quite a few prods, corrected some errors, do you mean that sort of thing?

You could do more of that sort of thing (so long as you do it autonomously), or you could enter some demo competitions at some demoparties. If you feel that you don't know how to make a demo, then now's a great time to learn. =)

I was afraid of that, as I have no talent except maybe for programming, and even then, not in assembler or C++ or anything like that, and I haven't programmed for about ten years now. I tried a music mod back in the 1990s called Ascender but it was basic, long and repetitive, and I never kept it. However, I've coded three games for Amiga (Brainbow, Revolver and Dangerous Natives), two of which made it to Assassins and the third which I submitted, but was ultimately never included in 17-Bit's library.

I was also unsure about joining Scene.org in the first place, as I'd feel I'd have to contribute my fair share. The trouble is, the "take" has been much more than the "give", and I think I might have to quit Scene.org as a member if I'm not pulling my weight. I assume people join and leave all the time, but I wouldn't want my additions here to be lost if I left.

Pouet as a site has a notorious permanency so don't worry about anything getting lost.

I'd highly recommend getting back in to programming (I'll look up those games you mentioned) but in any case you've had your ultimatum from Gargaj regarding these threads and you've received much advice from others. So now it's down to you to decide what to do next.

i guess you mean scene.org as sceneid. o_O

additions to pouet are permanent, whatever you submitted will remain even if you obfuscate your account details. unless they are duplicates / wrong info ofcourse.

regarding what fizzer said: you don't need to be an active demomaker to contribute positively to the demoscene. plenty of people haven't made a demo in years and still find ways to help the community: by organizing events, creating websites, checking data is correct, creating bridges between people, etc.

i think the most important part here is not to be time/energy drain from others in the community. in your particular case you have been doing it by recurrently asking questions that you could easily have searched for the answers yourself.

ofcourse there is a grey line of what is an useful/entertaining debate and what is a pure time/energy drain. but you clearly been stepping over the line a few times, so you should definitely hang back on creating new topics on random questions you can easily find the answer for. try instead to spot questions posed by others that fall into your pool of knowledge and search skills and help them find the answers they are looking for. that'll probably give you some community karma points back.
