Revision 2018 - 30. March to 2. April - Saarbrücken, Germany

category: parties [glöplog]
And I agree that seeing the audience reactions to the compo *is* cool!
i didn't know about the camera until jeenio called me during a compo break and asked me to wave there. so, i believe most people didn't know about it.

i do think it's an important discussion to have though, if people are expecting privacy and would not attend the event without it, there should be some clearly defined areas where they know they have it. that would be a good compromise i think, and worth seriously considering for next year to be included in the party faq and info slides and such.

So we decided to take that video down again. Showing some audience reactions now and then on the stream is probably fine (as we do between compo entries), filming everyone all the time and making that public is a completely different thing, especially when it wasn't known beforehand, and in hindsight we should have discussed that idea more.

Personally I'd really prefer to be able to pick my nose and spill my drink without the whole internet watching <cue "in Soviet Russia, Compo watches YOU" joke> :)

Now would be a good time to point out that "This wasn't my idea!"TM. I'm merely the editor cutting videos together as requested. Personally, this will save me hours of editing, rendering and uploading, so no complaints from me if the feature gets cut. :P

Yeah I think not being told is a bigger problem than the camera being there, it feels somewhat voyeuristic; the downside of being at the party is that you rarely know what goes out.

I've always known the live stream of the hall contents was there. Is this really not posted anywhere because I'm not sure how people didn't know...

I didn't. I know there are overview cameras going on the stream, for the main hall, second stage/infodesk area and outside area. However, those cameras are mounted so far up that you can't really see people that well.

Regardless, I do think they should be turned off when there are nothing happening. On Twitch you can still see the unedited stream footage for almost the entire party, even though there's absolutely no reason for that to be streamed. It comes awfully close to live-streaming surveillance CCTV feeds.

Pointing a camera squarely at the audience is an entirely different matter, and if one planned to do this beforehand it should really have been announced very clearly beforehand. That info should also include where the cameras will be pointed, so that you can choose not to watch the compo from there if you do not want to be broadcasted to the outside world.

I didn't say that, and don't mean that either. But when there's nothing of public interest going on where the camera is pointed, it might just as well be turned off :)

I was watching once again as a sofascener, as due to other members of my team wanting leave before Easter; this means that I don't have the time to drive over to Revision :(

But it was good to see the livestream on Twitch. Occasionally it dropped out, but this wasn't so often. Even when viewing on an Xbox One and a PS4 (not at the same time) overall it was largely seamless.

Flopine came very close to winning the live shader compo - even so because she's a girl. It was fantastic to see a lady like her compete in something like this and I hope she goes on to compete again and also achieves much more in her own life. She has some skills, certainly and I for one am proud to see this :)

What were the reasons for the delay in showing the oldskool compo ? Even going by BST+1 time, we ended up missing this compo entirely as we all were tired, so went to bed. The delay was even longer for the prizegiving, but this wasn't too bad as it was an ordinary daytime. Did something go down or fall over on the Saturday evening ?

It was fantastic to see Logicoma in concert too. My wife and I were at their original gig at Evoke back in 2017 and knew that they would kick some ass, which they certainly did.

It was also good to see the viewers count on Twitch exceed expectations. At the highest on the Sunday night the amount of viewers went over 4k, which is a significant achievement at least in my book. We had a number of non-sceners in the chat area who were asking what it was all about and a few of us who are sceners within the channel were attempting our best to explain stuff to them. They did seem intrigued though.

I was also pleased with the ongoing commentary from Truck, Subi and the other guys involved - and unlike last year at least the video and audio was fully in sync with each other. Last year this wasn't so good at times.

Finally, a big up to all orgas involved with setting up Revision each year. It can't be easy but overall it can be fun, which is one of the reasons why it so far has lasted for 7 years and counting now.

Hm. I am surprised people didnt know that an image of the party place will be streamed world wide (also photos can appear worldwide via Slengpung). Because I thought there was at least some fine print on the tickets. How do TV productions handle this when someone orders a ticket for a TV show?

During the live coding, I was wondering about if it's fair from the nice and handsome blablabla-makers to comment LOUD and maybe a little annoying what they see and what they would do, or think what the participants could/should do. (or should it be a must? ^^) Is it possible to see the big screen mirrored in the desk-töp-sceens? Is it fair if they try to catch a view on the competitors work (or should it be a must after 10 minutes to push the compo pressure :P) Why only two, if it could be 4 or more the same time... just easy thinking... no real criticism but please no ESL-teams in five years... DSL only! xD
I missed the annon compos a little, but it was easy to blend off the top line for the most compos. That was much more enjoyable in my mind.

Oh such a pity this video has been removed , I did not have time to watch it. It would have been an other nice souvenir from revision...
My opinion is that people should stop being such pussies about cameras and ++this particular++ privacy matter.
I knew there were cameras everywhere, obviously , people filming , and even I filming to keep a souvenir and show other people how cool it was to be there !

I was also super happy to discover and watch again the Logicoma concert and I find it fun to see myself tripping and looking happy in front of the stage surrounded by other nice people seemingly looking as happy and tripping !
I personally would have loved to see my "reaction".

I do not owl-watch the streams content, if nothing is happening. Am I mad or a stupid modern gamer-kiddy without life-experiences? I hate this myself and the most off-compo things I just don't need in my head or let's say the same way. Like seeing false shy eye-checkups between fe+male, kb drinking a blond with floppine (or whatever Ei in Leiste-rutsching). I was admin for (not that) big servers and I just can repeat: I don't care about personal- or meta-datas, only when beeing asked for help out, even when I was pissed on by someone... not my business! My sofa stands too far away anyway or I had three other more important Windows on top of the twitch-content, or I was just sleeping like a stone during my PC was indirect connected to ppl I don't know... (For that the split-screening was cool! Blending off too much truck, cgi, franky and the other commercials... ^^ <3) I remember technical things like bananas behind screens much more. I saw a lot of things, helpers and gimmicks I use here for myself. Overlay heads via demo over all heads, then I will come too... probably. Ok serious going out now in the sun. Hopefully the international end extraterrestrial spy-satellites doesn't record my sweating belly button. (I know, I only can speak for myself. I absolutely understand the problematic. Maibee thads why I joke arrount plus doing stupid type errors?!1?) LG

This was so very good, looking forward to a rewatch.

Also have to commend Havoc for the programming of the night as well. In addition to being a great performance in its own, it was also a perfect warm up for the full on dancefloor workout Logicoma delivered right after.

According to rumors on Twitter, Hoffman and Ferris are doing a Twitch stream on their tracked music entry Sunday at 20:00 CEST:
Rumor can be seen here

I figured I just as well should throw myself into the fray, so I'm doing a post Revision stream DJ-ing on Twitch when they are done (approximately 22:00 CEST). Will be playing some of the stuff I did play at Revision, some of the stuff I planned to play and ideally a couple of tunes from Revision. And probably some other stuff :)
Twitch event here

First time Revision visitor here, and I'd say in the end it was a good experience overall. Not sure if I'll come again soon, or try out a smaller party instead, but I'll definitely do something.

From an organizer POV, I really can't think of anything more I'd ask - it definitely seems like you're doing everything to put newcomers at ease. Also all the little details in the party, like the decorations around the tunnel etc, helped to make me chuckle and really give the impression that I've walked into a cool little place.

My goal in coming to Revision was to talk to people and make contacts in the scene, but on the first day I realized a flaw in my plan - I suck at talking to strangers, especially at a place like Revision where it's so so easy to avoid people. Haha.
I spent most of the party sitting at the back of the hall cursing myself for wasting the opportunity to do anything. Ah well. I was feeling pretty depressed about that until Gargaj recognized me by the info desk and invited me outside for a chat - that was fun, thanks man :)

I was happy that my demo, which I mainly brought just to not show up empty handed, placed around where I had expected - in the low double digits.

Re: the main stage noise level, at the *back* of the hall I'd say it was around perfect. Not only was the level good, but I was amazed at the quality of the sound from such a position - I really wasn't expecting that at all. I really enjoyed the Lesnik & Jacku, and Logicoma sets from there.
That said, this is from the *back*, so I can easily see how maybe further forward it might have been uncomfortable.

One odd detail I noticed from the back of the hall was the sheer amount of people who seemed to have no interest in watching the compos at all. Even the big ticket ones, like intro and demo competitions, and after all deadlines had passed. This really surprised me... Oh well, they weren't doing any harm or anything, so no reason for me to complain I guess :)

Anyway, thanks everyone who worked to put on a great party. And next time I know to simply bake delays into my schedule - no hard feelings there :)

That was actually pretty clutch, you walked past twice and I was like "wait, was that...?" so the third time I figured, fuck it, I'll ask. :D

It's not like that - they should've been advised, that there would be a footage that goes well beyond showing the general crowd reaction in the first place. The issue (yes, it was an issue) has been however resolved in a pretty good way given the circumstances.

But hey, what's wrong with being a pussy in the first place? Just because someone has a different acceptance level, I don't believe this is a good reason to call them like that.

I went from Organizing Revision (first two editions) to participating as drunk guest (3 years) to participating as sober guest(2 years) to sofascening (this year)...
...so i can say i got a view from all directions i think!
And i have to say Revision still keeps getting better (atleast to me), what i witnessed via Twitch was pure awesomeness! ;)

I can´t relate to the people that said the Twitch-Hosts should have tried to educate more...
...what i saw was Truck&Co trying their best to answer any question that came up in the chat (in the few seconds between prods in a compo, aswell as after each compo to go into more detail!), splendid job guys! :) And also the sceners in the chat helped answering a lot!

I will be back next year for sure...sitting sober in the crowd and watching it live while watching the Twitch-Stream at the same time, chatting my ass off! :p Will bring my Sofa, though! ;)
