R.I.P. Pixman

category: general [glöplog]

Very sad news: As confirmed by his family, the Swiss demoscener Pixman (csdb / demozoo) has left us on 8th November 2018, at the far-too-young age of 31.

Pixman started on the C64 in the early 2000s and was a regular and visible guest at the German and Swiss demoparties of that time, also participating in organising tUM and Geek Camp. I got to know him back then as a cheerful, highly energetic person, always up to a prank. After a few years, he disappeared from most sceners' sight, and began showing up at parties again only a few years ago - some of the younger sceners might have met him for the first time on Outline 2016. He never gave up his scene interests, even while going through severe health problems, and recently he volunteered to help me with my "Got Papers?" project - a collaboration that now, sadly, will never happen.

He will be sorely missed by many.

PS: I do not know any details on the cause of his passing, apart from him having multiple health problems over the past years, so please don't ask me.

Well, I met him on IRC many years ago. He was quite precocious for his age. And he was an avid diskmag reader.

Pixman, you will be missed! As if it was just a few years ago (instead of almost twenty), I remember how we managed to get you on bustrip to some German demoparty (probably Dialogos) with the hard-earned permission of your parents. This was, if I remember correctly, the first time we met in person and not just on IRC. Later on you were a regular visitor at our Buenzli and Demodays parties and recently announced to come to Demonights in Bern. I'm so sad this will not happen now.
The message of what has happened left me in shock. We have not been in close contact in the past few years - however I always knew you're around and following the demoscene. I'm sad you can not share your passion with any of us anymore.
They say one can never leave the demoscene: Wherever you are now, I hope there's a fine C64 to watch some demos. Rest in Peace, Pixman!

That's really sad news :-(
I always enjoyed meeting him at the early 2000 Buenzlis and was positively surprised to be seing him again in recent years.

Don't think I ever was introduced to or met him at Outline but even so, this is sad news.

It is always sad when sceners depart this life, no matter what platforms they were on.

RIP Pixman.

When I've arrived at my very first Revision he was one of the very few people who actually remembered me from the Outline party that took place a year earlier.

I'll try to remember him like this (caught him just before he made a badass face):

First time I met Pixman was at Outline 2015 when he showed up a day before the party to help us during buildup. Because that didn't work out so well time- and stresswise he decided to just attend as a visitor the next year. At both parties we shared quite some time talking about all kinds of subjects and Pixman made a point out of emphasizing how happy he was to be visiting demoparties again after a nearly 10 year hiatus. Despite sometimes rather big differences of opinion about random topics those discussions were always very convivial and that's also how I would characterize Pixman as a person. Unfortunately he couldn't find agreeable modes of travel in 2017 and 2018 but we stayed in contact and chatted on IRC or via Facebook semi-regularly. It was a big shock for me to read that Pixman had passed away despite knowing about his health related issues. To me it seemed he was actually succeeding to a significant degree in getting his life back on track. But apparently I was wrong. I wish Pixman's family and friends courage and wisdom in dealing with this terrible loss.

Rest in peace, Michael.
