Haven't tried in years but in general emulation layers or hacks to get Windows demos running in Linux have never worked that well, especially if you're aiming higher end productions.

On the other hand due to rise of browser based demos there probably has never been as many "Linux native" running productions than nowadays! :)

Check out WebGL/JS productions in pouet

more hassle than installing Windows and running them from there ;)

try that protondb stuff from valve, if it runs AAA game titles it could be the driver for demos too ..

There's that thing that works on linux that does not require a lot of power, has no compatibility issues and supports the majority of demos/intros, I highly recommend it, it's called youtube.

Seriously though, virtualbox with GPU pass-thru... totally not worth the effort + requires dedicated(to the VM) screen / GPU.

My 2c: use QEMU, not virtualbox/vmware/...

But yeah, besides that, there's only Wine. No idea how new demos work on that, because they'd set my hardware aflame.

And if you think there aren't enough Linux demos, make some :P (I'm currently workin on it.)

Why no Win64? Should work ok with at least DirectX 11 and OpenGL...

*proton* supports dx11 and 12 (protondb.com reports more than 3000 windows games working, a lot of newer triple A titles), dunno if you can run all windows software with that or just titles from steam, but since it's open source I guess it will work, but of course I have no idea how hard it is to install and to configure .. give it a try a make a demo about it ;) .. IMHO your best option to get windows demos running under Linux ..

I'd imagine that at least the typical raymarching intros would work rather well with Wine since they hardly make use of advanced API (DX) features that would need to be emulated?
I tried some 1k Intros with wine and the exe loader complained that the header was not regular. Also I tried fr-062 the cube, which gave me a new experience due to all the glitches I saw running with wine. Maybe the glitches were due to my AMD GPU and on NVIDIA GPUs it could work normally. Long story short: I would not recommend running demos through wine.

most of the windows stuff won't even run on any windows machine ;)

Proton is "a tool for use with the Steam client which allows games which are exclusive to Windows to run on the Linux operating system. It uses Wine to facilitate this." So basically proton == Wine.

basically wine, but much improved, otherwise the top notch games wouldn't run, especially dx support is improved ..
